Is there any risks to the fetus if I get pregnant while my boyfriend is on Azasan?

No body can answer my question not the Pharmacist not the Doctors and I am really beginning to get frustrated with it. My boyfriend and I wanna have a child together, and not one person can give me an answer if with my boyfriend being on Azasan if it can cause harm to the fetus. Everything I have read online and hurd from Doctors and the Pharmacist they only have information on if the female is taking it. So my Question to ANYBODY who knows can the Azasan cause fetal harm if I become pregnant while my boyfriend is on it?

No your baby will be fine. To elaborate, you can check answers to the question of whether or not the drug influences male fertility. The only way the drug could harm your baby is if it genetically alters sperm. Otherwise, there are no risks to a baby post fertilization.

That is the only thing it can do is lower their fertility. so I should be fine right?

Okay this is the only other thing I can find that says anything about the male.
AZASAN® (azathioprine) has been reported to cause temporary depression in spermatogenesis and reduction in sperm viability and sperm count in mice at doses 10 times the human therapeutic dose;10 a reduced percentage of fertile matings occurred when animals received 5 mg/kg.11

That risk might be that you will find it difficult to conceive. Low sperm count will not harm a baby after he or she is conceived. It just may take a little longer to get pregnant. Good luck and God bless.

Why don't you contact the company that makes it and ask them? Chances are, if no one knows they haven't done a study.

The company has posts on the internet about the drug and it still says nothing about the male taking it only the female

Find an address for the company, and ask them if they have ever done a study on it and if so what were the results.

Personally, from what I remember from biology class, and we are talking a quite awhile ago, as long as the drug doesn't alter anything genetically on the man it should not effect his child. And I don't think they would be him giving him anything that would alter his genetics in this day and age.

Since a woman carries the baby, anything she consumes, the baby consumes. That is where the risk lies in woman taking it.

YES! Birth defects have occurred in children whose father took this drug.
I looked it up on Wikipedia, and I asked my best friend who is a pharmacist.

Look it up in Wikipedia. It will give you the generic name. Then scroll down to
the topic Pregnancy & Breast Feeding.
