Very confused about Blair Witch Project. Read description.

I just watched Blair Witch Project for the first time, and I'm really confused. I don't understand weather or not the whole thing is fake, the movie is a recreation of actual events, or if that was real footage. I tried to find out online but my results were unclear. If you know anything about it, please answer. Thanks a lot.

Okay... I was taken in too... swallowed it hook, line and sinker. Until I realized, if this really happened, where did the footage come from?

(This movie freaked me out so badly that for weeks every time I would look out my windows into the woods, I was seeing pentagrams formed by the branches EVERYWHERE.)

They said the footage was recovered although they could not find the Heather, Mike, and Josh.

But I guess that was all fake.

It was. But it was cool anyway. I really liked the movie.

Don't feel bad - we had just moved out into the country (we lived in Northern VA) about the time the movie was being released, and I had the worst time at night, since the house was surrounded by woods. I was so mad when I found out it was fake.

And that was just from the hype - I didn't actually watch the movie until years later... didn't want to give them any of my money (that's how mad I was XD).

I live way out in the woods, no neighbors nearby, and htg, it was all I could do to force myself to go outside after dark to check on the animals for a while. I still don't understand what went on there. When I finally did start going out at night without my shotgun and a spotlight on me, one of my cats scared the bejeebers out of me. So then when I realized it was fake, I was hotter than a can of beans on the back of a $2 stove.

When it was originally released, it was touted as a real-life documentary, and the stars of the show were kept almost in seclusion in order to perpetuate the story of their deaths. However it was later revealed that the whole thing was fiction.

It is fake but the preparation for the film was pretty good. They setup dummy websites and planted stories for a few years before release. Also I think they only spent $14K to make it. Awesome profit.

Okay...the movie, Sephira covered that...the actual legend I think is a variation...I've heard of The Bell Witch, that legend dates way back.

The entire Blair Witch movie was "fake." It was promoted as a "true story" which had people in theaters everywhere screaming & scared out of there minds. It was a clever idea, definitely scared a lot of people, as the creators intended.
Watched it a couple years after it came out, and even though I knew it was totally fake, it was creepy anyway. Some of the footage they filmed in the woods... well, it's just plain creepy! It'd creep me out again if I watched it now... :)

Sure, you're welcome!! I want to go watch it and scare myself... again, ha. Those woods; all the bare branches & it being autumn and all... I dunno, it's just spooky! Then again, I'm weird, so... :)
