This is a stupid question alright I know but how do magnets work I mean what are they made of what makes this metal respond differently ?

Magnets work by having a magnetic field which attracts ferrous objects like cobalt nickel, steel and iron. Naturally occurring magnets are made from lodestone, which was discovered by the Greeks. A magnetic field is the space that surrounds a magnet, whereby a magnetic force is exerted.
