File for Texas Unemployment

what is the likely hood of getting unemployment when they say not a good fit, and you did your job. This was at a university, and they never did a 90 day review. and my boss called me spineless because I wasn't mean to the women she didn't like. the woman on the phone asked if anything led up to this, and I said nope, nothing, not a clue.

The best thing to do is to first consult with your state's department of labor, and inquire more details from them. Generally, to be eligible for unemployment in the state of Texas, you are required to meet three requirements; you have to be able, accessible and looking for employment, you are required to have lost your job in a specific manner, and also you are required to have made enough money in the recent past. Thanks Anthony, I have done all that. It was the comment that they put of not a good fit, after five months, and the part that I didn't say was that my department head said they voted all these women, who stays and who goes, so its more of not if you can do the job, but if you are popular enough, and since my boss wanted me to get another person fired, and I didn't want to participate in that kind of action, bothered her. She said the reason she hired me was because I was military, well, the part she missed was I was medical, I didn't carry my M-16 around and shoot my patients, just regular old needles when they needed a shot. And if she knew anything about military personnel, they are taught to work as a team, not against one another, sorta defeats the purpose if you get my drift! I am also considered disabled. So finding jobs have to be desk ones as I can no longer do prolong standing positions. A report of all activities and behaviors was sent to the dean of the this department. Maybe the one who wants people fired will get a taste of her own dose of medicine? Her shot from a military person might do her some good too!

Get another job, from your question it doesn't sound like you worked long enough to earn any unemployment.

Not being a "good fit" is not anything that you did that was against policy or broke any laws, so you should be able to get unemployment easily.

Thanks, I think you are correct. Not a good fit is not breaking any laws. Nor was I evaluated at the time frame that was suppose to be. I had been there for over five months. And had credits from the year before. The strange questions was do you want to work at another school from twc, and my answer was, not really, not at this time!

Universities can be notoriously difficult to work for. I worked for Michigan State University for 7 years, and when a new boss decided that I wasn't a "good fit" (after 7 years!!!) I was let go. You have my sympathy and understanding.

Thanks, I hope you are right! I should find out this week what the outcome is, and if I have to fight it, I will. Only on principles if nothing else.

Exactly. Good luck.

If you read what I wrote about being hired because I was military, she must have missed the part that I was medical, and I didn't carry an M-16 around to shoot my patients, just regular needles with medicine. I did however send a report to the dean of the department, and all of the things that went on while I was there. Maybe he can clean the place up and boot some of them out that don't need to be there. Not being a good fit? I mean, really, what is that? Especially when your doing your job and told your doing a good job? Oh, and I have recorded conversations on my phone, as well as phone bills to back up the times she would call me in the evenings at home to scheme on getting this one girl fired. I suggest the next time she calls someone spineless, she better remember some of us actually have spines made of steel, like mine actually is.....seriously.....lol....lots of metal in this old back!

I hope she gets hung out to dry like all bullies should. In my position, I had so many clients who truly admired me and liked what I was doing. But all it takes is one putz to ruin the whole shebang.

Yes, I hear you on that! I was liked by all the professors and graduate students, which many, were from China or India. To me, each one of them were special, and each person deserves respect. Especially students who are paying big fees to attend school. Although I understand the President was receiving lots of complaints about staff treating students poorly. And educational budgets are being cut. So I'm sure a few more will be hung out to dry. But hopefully this boss who was so callous is one of them. Calling me at night was too much!

Sounds like a lovely woman. The capper for me was when my boss took me out to breakfast in MY small home town (not his, mine) and proceeded to call me on the carpet in front of friends and neighbors. Classy guy, huh? He and your former boss would make a lovely couple.
