Automatics are faster. When accelerating, an automatic is never disconnected from the engine, even when changing gears so power is never interrupted. With a manual, when you depress the clutch, the power from the engine to the transmission is interrupted for a small period of time, causing a slight but measurable loss of acceleration.
Depends on the driver of the vehicle and if they know how to shift. You can shift an automatic, a lot of people just push the gas. Simple mistake. Either transmission can be quicker than the other. now in a manual transmission you can double clutch it. this is how drag racers do it.
It mainly depends on the vehicle. Some high performance cars only come in automatics, the manufactures say that cause no human can shift as fast as a computer. So for maximum acceleration they use the automatics. But for road courses i would say a manual is faster since you have more control of the acceleration performance in the turns. Me Personally i will always try to drive a manual for maximum control.
