My key will not turn in the ignition it is locked up what is the easiest way to fix it? I know it is not the ignition switch

Yep. Wiggle the steering shell as you turn the key. The steering wheel lock is putting more pressure on it than the key can overcome.

hmm is your steering wheel locked?? Try jerking the steering wheel back and forth and few times with the key in the ignition to see if it will release, if you have your front wheels jammed against a curb this could be more difficult... not sure what else could cause this...

Hey, JanetRazey, did turning your steering wheel work? I was going to ask if you can get your key in and out of the ignition or did it just go in and it's stuck, period?

im not trying to be a jerk but are you sure you are using the right key.I've by accident stuck the wrong chevy key in the switch .

With your foot on the brake, turn your steering wheel. When you get in the car, notice which way the wheels are turned. Turn the wheel the opposite direction.
