Without question gay marriages should be legal. The only thing that justifies not making it legal is religion, and this country was founded on the concept of separation of church and state. Hence, it settles out that there should certainly be legal gay marriages. However, I do not think anyone should try to force a specific church to perform and gay ceremony if it is against their precepts. I feel certain that there will be plenty of churches willing to perform gay services, as they should do.

I did not phrase that very well, did I? What I meant is that the only people arguing against gay marriages (that I've heard) are basing their objections on religion. Good catch.

I think so! who are we to say someone can't be happy just because we don't agree with it? if church and state are suposto to be separate than I don't understand how this can be an issue. If people don't agree because of religion well like I said church and state are suposto be separate!

It may make me happy to get a drivers license but if I'm legally blind I won't be able to get one. Gay to gay marriage license doesn't meet the criteria.

my point is what does it hurt you personally if two people get married? there are a lot if things I don't like or agree with that have nothing to do with me in any way. does that mean I should say those things can't be done? Just because my great how ever many grandparents thought it was wrong why does that mean I have to. Let me ask you should we still have slaves, segregation, or no womens rights because that's how it used to be done? or does that only apply to gay people?

You are correct about the blind driver thing. I was grappling a bit there. But on the same token dragging in the slavery issue is grappling a bit too. I was making the comparison to both requiring licenses for good reason. As I have stated my feelings on the general topic of gay people before ,it is only the marriage I am against. Well I could do without the activism too. There are a lot of things that don't hurt you or I but I'm sure neither of us would sanction them either. We once had a lesbian couple living next house to ours and we loved them as neighbors. Just realize we are not monsters about this. I feel that marriage for better or worse has an official definition and it shouldn't be changed. I know that brings us right back where we started.

I don't have a problem with us or any body having a difference of opinion. expecially when it comes to something like this. this is why I love the country we live in. its great to here other peoples povs.And Regardless of anything you have a right to your opinion and even though I do not agree with it I do respect it. thank you for the stimulating conversation.

Whoa! I may get cynical or sarcastic but you are way wrong about how I feel about gay people. I am truly sorry if you got that impression because it is inaccurate. I defy you to show me a hateful statement that I have made. It is strictly that I come down on the negative side regarding gay/lesbian marriage. If it wasn't so easy to talk about it here on ASK few would know or care about my sentiment on this. You won't see me marching with a placard against anything.

Kristian; thanks all is well . One problem with this medium ,I think is that you can make a comment and it just hangs there and can hang you without the normal face to face personal touches that allows one to cut off the rough edges. I like to use humor too but it can go way sour if I'm not careful, as we saw .

Of course. What goes on in your personal life is no business of mine since we are talking two consenting adults so they aren't hurting anybody Marriages can be performed at city hall by a JP so they are not a religious rite so religious feelings about it simply do not matter. If a church disagrees they have the same right to say no to performing a religious ceremony that they have always had.
