Does vitamin c really lighten hair?

I tried on mine but it didn't seem to work at all. but I have watched so many YouTube videos and also read a few web pages and it says it works. But why didn't it work for me? I used 35 tablets crushed up (using a pill crusher) and the normal amount of shampoo I use in my hair with just a bit extra. I left it on my hair for 1 and a Half hours, and washed my hair. (my hair is dyed black) and it is still black.

I think it means for natural hair too, my hair is dyed black, usually before I dye it a different color, Suave usually takes some of the color out of my hair. I don't really know what ingredients are in Suave, but it works for me. If you dyed your hair multiple times black, then it would be harder for it to come out.
