How many countries are in the World?

Including island nations. I hear 183!

There are currently 196 countries in the world. Out of these countries, 193 are members of the United Nations and three are considered as independent countries. These three countries are territories and colonies and are sometimes not recognized as territories. Visit http://geography.about.com/cs/countries/a/numbercountries.htm for more information.
