If we are saved from sin by Christ and we keep sinning, can we be saved again?

I have a problem with putting other gods before the real God and I ask for forgiveness, but I keep making the same exact sin. Will I be able to be saved again?

Every believer has, at one time or another, lamented his or her inability to stop sinning. While we tend to think the problem stems from weakness in ourselves, the inability to stop sinning usually indicates a deficiency in our understanding of God's strength. When we do not understand His power to save, forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9), we can get caught in a destructive cycle of sin, guilt and fear, which leads to a lack of joy in our salvation, which leads to more sin.The only way to break the cycle and stop sinning is to accept the fact that we cannot stop sinning. This may seem contradictory, but if a person does not stop trying to save himself, he will never rest in the knowledge that God has saved him. The joy of salvation comes from accepting the fact that God's grace covers us, that He will change us and conform us to the image of Christ, and that it is His work, not ours (Romans 8:29; Philippians 1:6; Philippians 2:13; Hebrews 13:20-21). Once this reality is truly grasped, sin loses its power. We no longer feel the impulse to turn to sin as a means of temporary relief from anxiety, because the anxiety and pressure has been relieved once for all by Christ (Hebrews 10:10, 14). Then, the good works we accomplish in faith are done because of love and joy rather than out of fear or duty.

Thank you strawberry. I often say that God's Word is not so weak as it can only be heard from one source. Your comment really spoke to me. I don't only give you a green for support, but because this was something I needed to hear as well. Thank you and God bless.

Jesus never said any of this. All of this story about the blood of Jesus washing away the sins of the world was added long after Jesus was ascended.

The blood of Christ is the basis of the New Covenant. On the night before He went to the cross, Jesus offered the cup of wine to His disciples and said, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you" (Luke 22:20). The pouring of the wine in the cup symbolized the blood of Christ which would be poured out for all who would ever believe in Him. When He shed His blood on the cross, He did away with the Old Covenant requirement for the continual sacrifices of animals. Their blood was not sufficient to cover the sins of the people, except on a temporary basis, because sin against a holy and infinite God requires a holy and infinite sacrifice. "But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins" (Hebrews 10:3). While the blood of bulls and goats were a "reminder? of sin, ?the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect" (1 Peter 1:19) paid in full the debt of sin we owe to God, and we need no further sacrifices for sin. Jesus said, "It is finished" as He was dying, and He meant just that--the entire work of redemption was completed forever, "having obtained eternal redemption" for us (Hebrews 9:12).

There is too much blood in your paragraph.

The phrase "blood of Christ" is used several times in the New Testament and is the expression of the sacrificial death and full atoning work of Jesus on our behalf. References to the Savior's blood include the reality that He literally bled on the cross, but more significantly that He bled and died for sinners. The blood of Christ has the power to atone for an infinite number of sins committed by an infinite number of people throughout the ages, and all whose faith rests in that blood will be saved.

@momo-it would be better I think if you said "I" or "my religion believes this" then state it as fact or tell people that their faith is wrong...

There must be a mediator between is and God. No unclean thing can stand before God- it is through christ's atonement that our mistakes can be forgiven and we can be made whole.

Shaylen, people have been standing before God with sins LONG before there was even a thing called Jesus. God will forgive me the way he forgave Abraham. He doesn't need blood goat or blood sheep for me to be forgiven. It's common sense.

Well, first off, you need to make it a goal not to keep putting those things before God. Do whatever you can to not do those things. You could fast from them, and after the fast, limit yourself on how much you do them. Second of all, we all sin, which is why Jesus died on the cross. Repent and ask for his forgiviness. Third, I believe true salvation is by getting filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. We have a much better understanding of it when we have the Holy Ghost. Pray and seek God on that subject. Also, it doesn't sound like you are totally backsliden. But if you think you are, repent and ask God to send HIs Spirit in your life. God bless!

Hebrews 10:261
For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth there no longer remains a sacrifice for sin.

The bible says you can sin all your life, but on your deathbed, if you repent and accept Jesus and God, you will be saved

To me there is a difference between salvation and sin. We are saved by grace, but we are judged by our sins. In my opinion divine judgement isn't a simple 'pass/fail' test.
As always, your opinion may vary.

I think you need to let God help you with this one before you can truly repent. Repentance is a process in which one forsakes that sin. I don't think you're at that point yet but luckily, our God is a patient and loving God. Keep His commandments, keep the faith, endure to the end, and repent, pray, and read your scriptures often. God judges us by the intents of our hearts. And we are saved by grace after all we can do. So do your best! God appreciates that and notices it. But yes, that's what the atonement is for. we are never too far to return again.

If you are truely saved then first you try to live as God wants you to and try not to sin and secondly you cant ever lose your salvation. As humans we still screw up on occasion and thats when we ask for forgiveness. If you cont to live a deliberately sinful and disobedient lifestylei would venture to say you were never truely saved to begin with. Recieving true salvation means recieving God into your heart and becoming a NEW person in Christ.

No one is saved by Christ, and none will ever be. Moral justice can not take the innocent for the guilty, even if the innocent were to offer himself voluntarily. God, being the source of absolute morality, can not act immoral -- if there is god!! However, you are NOT to "sin", not because you are insured by some supposed redemption, but because that is the right thing to do.

What about sacrifice and mercy? And we aren't taken for the guilty... I'm lost?

What sacrifice, Shaylen? God is love remember?
Report as
@momo-and you make sacrifices for the people you love. Like I make sacrifices for friends and family. Giving up my time, and so on. God sent his son.
Report as
God, being god and not people, needs no sacrifice to show love. Remember, you call him all-powerful!!
Report as
Your answer still doesn't make sense to me.
Report as
Maybe "sacrifice" was the wrong word, but God does show mercy, which is a sign of love and grace.
Report as
Does god need a "condition" or "clause" to show mercy? Isn't love condition-less? Would you show mercy to your loving child, only if he'd cut-off and sacrificed a hand for you? Does that make "perfect sense" to you?
Report as
Shaylen, if the son loves the people so much that he was willing to die for them, doesn't the father love the people even more? I mean I wouldn't shove my son in car's moving path. I'll go there myself and protect him. This whole sacrifice thing doesn't make sense to any logical person. But of course, this is your salvation.

All you have to do my friend too stay saved is confess your sins and put effort in trying not to do it anymore, if course mean it from your heart. And trust and believe Jesus died for you. You'll be fine
