How do you find obsidian in Minecraft EASILY?

I have been playing minecraft: survival recently and have gotten pretty far. the next step is to find obsidian. i have tried mixing water and lava but it only gives me cobblestone. how can i easily find obsidian?

As far as I know, you can't mix them. I thought you had to place lava completely underwater? Finding it easily, though? You'd better start looking for a cave that just happened to render water and lava together.

I think you have to mix still water with still lava. It can't be flowing or else it will make cobblestone.

Get a bucket of water, and find a pool of lava. If underground, there will already likely be obsideon made, but if there isn't, place your water a couple of blocks from the lava. :)
