Hagia Sophia was initially an Orthodox patriarchal basilica; it served as the Greek Patriarchal cathedral of Constantinople from 360 until 1453. But, it was converted to a Roman Catholic cathedral between 1204 and 1261. Later on, it was converted into a mosque, and now a museum. Read on about it from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hagia_Sophia.

Hagia Sofia or Aya Sofia was first built as a Christian church by the Byzantine(Romans), this place was later conquered by the Ottomans who converted it to a Mosque. There should be a story behind it, just google it.
