Maybe they don't know how to love right. because of what happened earlier in their life/childhood. Or they could just be using someone.

Some times people grow up think love is ok in their way , sometimes people don't grow up know love is sweet and gentle , people who grow up in hard families or issues become abusers

Not everybody that was abused becomes abusers. Thats not right.

Yeah it's proven , most do later in life , they don't know it but not at abuse is physical. It can be emotion or medicine or self harm

I can't even think of a reason besides that maybe the person's too scared or somehow convinced him/herself that she deserves the abuse.

It probably depends on the individual. I mean you have psychotic people that have no empathy for anyone. For them, no one else matters and they can do what makes them happy. On the other end, you have people that may have grown up in that way of life and do not know better. Or may know but don't know how to stop. Those people could stop the abuse with anger management and therapy.
In the middle, i think it is a mix of personality and habit. And when all is said and done, it is a form of control. It makes the person feel they are better, smarter, worth more, etc.

But it takes a lot to change the behavior, so if you are in a bad relationship, please do not stay in an unsafe environment. If he/she wants counseling, you can go, but do it from a safe place and they can earn the right to come back to your life on different levels.

We have been broken up for about six months and he recently came back into my life... he said he has changed but i don't know what to think. We were together for five years and he wasn't always abusive. It started when he joined the Army.

If some one truly loves someone they would never be abusive ever. A abusive person will not change.
