Hi Tee Tee!
Well I think it's because you can't see. You might watch a scary Halloween show and then be scared, or if you're by yourself you might get scared too!
The good part is, when you turn on the light nothing is there, nothing to be afraid of!
Big people are scared of the dark too!
It's all in your imagination.
You're not scared are you? : )

@ Leanne, Hi!!!
@ Tee Tee, well I have to tell you something, I'm big and still got scared. You know what really works? A night nite, yep, never scared again! Plus when I get scared and turn on the light nothing is there! Nothing! All in my imagination!!
@ Tone! Omg! I'm major afraid of the dark, I won't even watch some movies. One night my music box played a random single note... I was outta there. It doesn't help that I have friends that call me " someone knocked on my door, won't say who it is, and I looked under and they DON't HAVE ANY FEET, help! I'm hiding in the closet!! "
Yep.

Because they cannot see what might be there. Dangers often hide in the dark but, there are many more dangers that are imagined to be there. People are often afraid of the unknown. In the dark, the things you can't see are unknown. When you turn on the light and can see them, the imagined dangers go away.

It is not the dark they are afraid of, they are afraid of what they cannot see. Which is the same reason why they are scared of what might be under the bed.

If they can see if there isn't a threat, then they are not afraid.

<whisper voice>Tony737 - we used a lilac-scented body spray as "monster spray." As long as the scent was around, everything was good.

Omigosh that's so cute! <3
Well Tee tee, I think it's because as kids, we're taught that many bad things tend to lurk in the dark. You know, like the wolf in Little Red Riding hood and Ursula. We're not exactly scared of the darkness we really are scared of the fact that we can't see. We're scared of the unknown! =)

Because that's when the boogie man comes out. The boogie man is a scary monster that has platform shoes and wears a leisure suit and dances around to the sound of disco music. Very scary.

Because people are afraid of things they don't know. When they can't see it, they just don't believe it. Silly, isn't it?

Hey Tee Tee! Well, most kids are afraid of the dark because they're afraid of Gators and his van full of candy.... Just kidding!!! They think something might get them, like monsters. But there are no such things as monsters. :)

Take a good long look around your room before you turn the lights out. Notice where everything is. When you turn out the lights nothing changes. The only things in your room are the same things that you saw when the light was on.

Easy... Because the Boogey Man lurks in dark places... Mostly under little girls beds. Then kiss her good night.
