In my case, does losing weight =losing muscle? read more...

i was 148 lbs in december (5'7) now i am 133 (still 5'7). i try to eat clean and reduce midsection body fat through cardio and exercise. if i lose more weight, will i begin losing muscle as well? i have eaten about 1700 calories today, did 30 minutes of cardio and 40 minutes of core exercise. not enough calories? thanks in advance.

No, losing weight does not mean you're losing muscle. You're just burning fat. You're doing alright man. You're just going to be a little more tone than mass. Which is better. Spend a little more time on your core, you'll get your results. And keep up the good work.

If you lose weight when you excercise and eat healthy, you are losing body fat. When you don't excercise is the only time when you lose muscle mass.

this is a hard question to answer. you can invest in a body fat scale which will help you track your progress. it will let you know if you are losing fat versus muscle. they are fairly inexpensive.

If you keep up with your exercise than you should be fine...

Regardless of popular belief... a person cannot "spot target' certain areas of the body to reduce fat by excercise. Fat comes off from the entire body. What people think of target training actually is just building/toning the muscle underneath. It doesn't reduce the fat in that area, just aids in appearance. If you are trying to build muscle the answer is yes, you do need to incorporate more calories especially protein. A male should consume about 2000 and a woman about 1800 calories a day (more so if active) just to maintain weight. Check out WebMD... there is an interesting section on their website under "BMI Calculator Plus." Hope this helps! :)
