Does anyone know who the new movie "The Impossible" is based on? Is it a specific family, or the event itself?

Report as

"The Impossible" movie is based on a true story about a family's experience of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The Tsunami claimed over 200,000 people. It gives us glimpses of how strong the human spirit is in the midst of mayhem. Learn more from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Impossible_(2012_film).

Thank you for information that I already knew; and for not answering my question.
I'll try to ask again:
What-was-the-"true-story"-that-the-film-is-based-on?

It is based on one family's (fictional) survival of the 2004 tsunami.

I am aware of the premise of the movie; that was not my question.
The movie is "based on the true story". I'll ask again and hope that you can understand this time:
Is the tsunami the true story, or is what the family went through the true story, as in the family itself?

It is an actual family. Ewan McGregor was on Jimmy Fallon talking about the family and meeting the man that experienced it,and making sure he accurately portrayed him. He also said that they were standing in the movie filming the actual tsunami scene in the same place the actual family was standing. But I have tried many times, without success, looking for the name of the actual family or to see their story. I do know they are a family from Spain, only portrayed as English.

I don't know if it is the family name, but the mother's real name is Maria Belon. She is interviewed at http://www.theimpossible-movie.com/
