A local anesthetic numbs the area. You still feel the tugging, but itdoesnt hurt. After the anesthetic wears off, you may need to take a pain pill to cope with the discomfort, but you'll be able to handle it. In a couple days you'll be fine. My ten year old granddaughter just had it done last week, and she was fine the next day.
No, not nearly as bad as your toothache. You have nothing to worry about. The dentist will give you a shot in your gums and you won't feel a thing, really it's not that bad. I've had one pulled and want to give you some advice, it really helps a lot if you just close your eyes when he/she starts. If you look at the needle and the thing he uses to pull your tooth with you might get more nervous. The worst part( seriously ) is seeing the equipment, keep your eyes closed from start to finish, it doesn't hurt at all, all you can feel is pressure, no pain. You'll probably be drooling for a few hours after, lol. No worries.
