Is it weird that I want to be samurai?

Ever watched The Last Samurai? Yeh, it's like that. I want to fight with the swords. I want to wear the armor. I want to die a good, proud death.

Tough lifestyle, not for the faint-hearted. Traditionally, a samurai was Buddhist. He practically belonged to his master and his entire reason for living was to serve his master. Many times failure was not an option because it resulted in shame. If a warrior leader (Bushi) lost a battle, it was common for him to commit seppuku, ritual suicide; committing seppuku allowed him to regain his family's honor. It was very painful as it required thrusting one's knife into the abdomen and drawing it across the body and up if possible. One could have a second that was there to chop off the person's head as soon as the final cut was made. The samurai studied to be a warrior from birth and that was the only option he had for a career. If one's master lost his "kingdom", the samurai lost everything as well. Very interesting study. Warriors were the best because they did not fear death, and their only object in life was to serve their masters.

I know all about the 'taking my own life if I am conquered' thing. But is it WEIRD?

It is not weird, not common in this culture, but not weird. Your best bet would be to join the Marines. I understand you know about seppuku, but did you read the rest of the comment? You don't make your own decisions about very much and your master's defeat is your defeat. Have you thought how you would start your training? you are kind of old to start now, but if that's what you want, how do plan to get there?

Well I recently bought the swords. I'm saving up for the armor. And I'm looking for a place to train that's not out of the states.
