Would you share with somebody that you had hepatitis C ? It's thought to be contracted by IV drug use only (not true) so there's a stigma.

My husbands brother has it and a family member won't let him around their children. He is on the liver transplant list so there's not much time for him to possibly meet his nephews .

Because of all the stigma around such diseases I'm not telling anyone if I had it.. or any stigma diseases...Look what happen to Sincerity's family member... No way I'm sharing such info. Its sad what's happen and I know it hurts their family...

I agree with you wholeheartedly . Unfortunately it's just sad. Candy mentioned above it was highly contagious but I know it's only transferred through blood with needles or sexual relations and TOOTHBRUSHES since blood from the gums can get on the toothbrushes. I have researched this at length with the Red Cross blood bank and they know all about diseases like this since they must screen for them to accept blood donations. Thank you Dustee for your kind and compassionate response .

And I would be concerned as Candy said if there was a cut or scrape. I don't know. I let my children see their uncle.

I was married to a man who had Hep C. Never told me. A family member did when I filed for divorce 11/2 years later. I never contracted it. It's not as contagious as most folks say. That is part of the misconception. :)

Because it is highly infectious, I feel it is that persons responsibility to inform whoever has close contact with him.

Who said that IV drug use is the only way to get hep C ? There are numerous ways to become infected. If IV drug use was the only way we'd have far less Hep C patients, & if that were true I'd be fine with my children being around someone with hep c. Sounds like you folks are just waiting for the grim reaper to pop in for a visit. Maybe it would be easier on the children if they didn't get to see their uncle die,

I put in the question that that point is not true. It is not the only way to contract it-that's the stigma though.

You completely misread the question. We are not waiting for the grim reaper. We are a family dealing with a sad situation. This is the last time I will ever ask a question. And it's not about "us folks", it's about one family member as I wrote. But the question was never answered by you anyway-but I've still learned my lesson.

I understand that you know, I was just wondering who said that Hep C wasn't contagious

He is on the liver transplant list so there's not much time for him to possibly meet his nephews .-Ah uummmmmmmmmmmm-next---I didn't misread your ? SO THERE"S NOT MUCH TIME FOR HIM TO POSSIBLY MEET HIS NEPHEWS-sounds pretty much like he"s on his way out, I'm sorry but if there"s not much time l---is he traveling to Europe LLMF

don't let one persons answer keep you from getting advice! I have a son who has liver disease. and I think its crazy that they would not let there children around him because of his hep c. it is not contracted by basic human contact. I think maybe she needs to be educated.
