Do not put just any ATF in a transmission, There are many formulations of Transmission fluid. JCB 1400B uses Ford type F (careful here, there a many type F fluids) that meet the international standard "M2C-33G", In Europe this is called "ATF G" common in VW and AUDI automatic. Many 80's Japanese makes used this fluid also since Borg-Warner made transmissions for Japanese companies.
Early Ford transmissions required high friction additives to the fliud because of the friction materials used in the clutches and bands, GM used a different material and did not require the friction additive in the fluid. later formulations used less and less of the additive until the new formulation call MERCRON witch contains none of the friction additive. If the manufacturer specifications call for a friction additive, you will burn up your transmission if you put in fluid that does not have the right balance/blend.
