Why does my toddler throw herself backward and then go run to find something she can hit her head against and how can I break her of it?

when my daughter doesn't get what she wants she throws anything she can grab, she throws herself backwards and then gets up and runs to find anything hard that she can bang her head against?

Temper tantrum. Ignore it and if that doesn't work, a tap on the bottom and a time out will tell her that is an unacceptable behavior.

Sounds like she is doing it to get attention/purposely hurt herself > which leads to attention from you. Let her do it and ignore it, and she will learn that actions like that will not get her anywhere.

You could be at fault because you would have initially pampered her and now she wants to show her protest. The best way is to explain her . Best way would be take a boiled egg and hit it on a hard surface and tell her it breaks and also if she hurts herself while falling you need to tell her hurting her head is more painful.
Never spank your child. Also give her a task which is difficult to complete and tell her she has to earn that. That way she learns more and also gets less

Toddlers do not throw temper tantrums because of childhood pampering from the parents.

I am a father of three year old kid. I am doing this to my son and he was pampered a lot by my wife. I am speaking this based on my experience

m 14 mth grandson when getting told NO,he'll run and hit anyone or/and everything. throw or knock glasses or ashtrays down.I've just about broke him from it.Everytime he starts to do it I;ll pick him up and calmly say no that's not nice and at the same time try and make him laugh--(like gotcha big boy) anything to get his mind off of pitching a fit.Soon she'll forget that ,that is a habit of her's.It's taken me almost 4 days of constantly--and I mean every time I know he's gonna do it I pick him up.I promise now he doesnt even think about running to hit or throw sometime.. Let me know if it works..But you have to do it every time

Probably it is just a case of trying not to reward (by giving in) this behavior. Some others have covered this in their answers. I recommend you also do check out the possibility that the child might be in pain from some physical cause. It's worth knowing.
