Is there such a law that states: if you come home to your spouse cheating, you can shoot both of them and get some sort of insanity charge?

Insanity charge instead if double murder. I've heard this but I'm not sure.

A crime of passion is not a defense. If the evidence shows that the killing was done "in the heat of the moment", it can reduce the charge and culpability from 1st Degree Murder to 2nd Degree Murder (some states) or Voluntary Manslaughter. It doesn't let the killer off the hook, it only mitigates the crime for purposes of punishment.

BTW, this is not the same as the insanity defense where it is claimed that the defendant didn't know right from wrong at the time of the crime.

Murder is illegal no matter what, but there are various claims that one can make that will possibly mitigate the circumstances. One of which is what's called a "crime of passion", which basically states that they were so overwrought due to their emotional state, that they didn't really know what they were doing. Don't know how well it really works as a defense though.

I heard that too but it had to be able to be proven that it happened in a matter of 2 seconds (and all states are going to be different) kinda like in the book of dumb laws in wv a man can beat his wife on the 1st sun of the month with a stick but it can't be bigger then his thumb on the court house lawn
