How can atheist account for over 300 people that witnesses the crucifixion of Jesus Christ ?

Theres tons of documentation of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, believers and the unbelievers that mocked him, calling him the king of Jews, when Jesus died on the cross, there was darkness for three hours, and the unbelievers left.

That Jesus was crucified is not in question. He was one of thousands of others (all witnessed by those present at the time) who met that same fate at the hands of the Romans, so this alone cannot be construed as evidence of the divine.

That there was an eclipse at that time could be a coincidence, but if so the crucifixion did not happen at Passover since that takes place during the full moon while eclipses only happen during the new moon. But if this period of darkness lasted hours, that would not go without comment by any historians of the time since it would be without precedent.

Nor would Matthew's account go without mention which includes an earthquake and graves opening and occupants rising up and visiting people.

And as momentous as any of the foregoing events would be, none of them appear in the Gospel of John regarding the crucifixion. I don't think it is reasonable to assume this omission is a simple oversight. All of this calls into question the veracity of the miracles associated with the Gospel accounts of the crucifixion.

Most will agree that there is some historical evidence that a man named Jesus did exist. What is at issue is that there is no proof that he was the "son of God".

" What is at issue is that there is no proof that he was the 'son of God'."

That is a matter of opinion, not necessarily fact or truth, clearly there are people who do, in fact, believe that there is proof that Jesus is the Son of God.

@kjr1217 - if there was concrete proof we wouldn't be having this discussion. I understand completely that some people have personal experiences that they feel proves to them that he (and God) are real. However physical proof that is observable by others, does not exist.

There was also an unbelieving disciple named Thomas who said basically the same thing and Jesus said to him reach here with your finger touch my hand and touch with with your hand my side and Thomas said My Lord and My God and Jesus said because you have seen me you believe? Blessed are they who did not see and yet believe. You say you want concrete proof how many people have died to prove to you that He is real . If you knew something was a lie and your life depended on in would you be willing to give your life for that lie? If you are then remember this you just might be doing that right now. Hope you change you views one day and you get to experience the love of God . You don't have too but I much rather be with God and be wrong than to be with nothing to believe , nothing to look forward to and be right.

Who said that I believe in nothing? Please point it out to me where I said that. I simply answered a question. If someone chooses to accept God - that's their choice. Don't assume though, that those who do not choose to believe in Him (or follow Him), automatically believe in nothing. What is right for you, may not be right for everyone - not everyone is looking to experience "God's love".

no its really not. its sad youre looking to find love in an imaginary friend rather than yourself. now thats whats sad. @trucker31: ive noticed that most of your arguments may not follow the two words but they are all about what ifs. what if the bible is right? what if this? what if that? its all about what ifs, although you never use the words. stop using what ifs. what ifs are just another excuse for... i wanna be stupid so let me ask you things that probably arent true but make you wonder. your arguments are all based on what ifs. so... what if this is all there is? what if there is no god? you spend your entire life worshipping your imaginary friend and living for him and hoping for a life after this life. but then you never appreciate the life that you have now? does it really make you happy? spending your life worshipping your imaginary friend and living for him rather than living for yourself? what if there is no god? waht if this is all there is? will you really be happy knowing you spent your life and didnt enjoy a minute of it? thats sad too

The first answer. Plus, have you meet these three hundred+ people? Have you taken their account of that day? Did you know that the translation from the language the bible was originally was written in to English is not exact. One mistaken word could change your whole beliefs. Ponder this.

Thousands saw Him after He rose from the dead.
But it is up to each of us to accept Jesus as our personal savior. Some think this moment on Earth is all we have and live their life like there is no tomorrow. Christians believe their is an eternity and want to spend it with God and spend their moment on Earth to that end.
As long as you have heard of God's truth you alone can choose the path you take. Choose God or choose evil. It is solely up to you. In the end you will see if you chose wisely.

Atheists don't reject 'CRUCIFIXION"; they just reject the "CRUCI-FICTION" of resurrection and ascension, that Christianity had devised to fool the mass!!

YES! There's nothing called eternal life. Even if there was, there's no way for you to say what that is..

okay, again, the bible is a work of historical fiction, meaning many of the events in it are correct. the bible is in fact historically accurate. however, the fact it should be taken as nonfiction is not the case. okay, so people witnessed a man named jesus die on a cross because he was a crazy psychopath. what difference is that from today? we have presidents who claim to be christians and there are plenty of people who witness this. does this mean christianity is correct because those people witnessed the president say this? no, it d oesnt. yes, a man named jesus died on the cross. but that does not prove the bible is correct. it doesnt prove the bible is from god, or that its gods word. it doesnt prove any of that at all.

I don't appreciate you calling Jesus Christ a psychopath, after Jesus died on the cross the whole earth turned to darkness for 3 hrs.and all the unbelievers scattered Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunishedYou know your accountable for every idle word you speak, good luck

well i dont appreciate you acting like your religion is everything and it cant be disproven. asking questions that start off with, "atheists, how do you..." as if we are somebody bad or something. i dont appreciate that. and okay there was darkness for 3 hours? what bible are you reading?please tell me; it must be the wrong one. nowhere in the bible does it say anything about darkness for 3 hours. its a shame, really. im an atheist and i know more about your religion than you do. and i suppose even if it did that just shows how much of a psychopath he was. i mean after he died the earth turned to darkness? as far as im concerned that would prove that he was the son of satan, not the son of god. stop asking atheists how do you explain this or how do you think this happened or stuff like that. really, i dont appreciate that; it sounds like youre conceited in your religion. but yeah, read the bible again and tell me what verse it says that the earth turned to darkness. please, because ive read the gospel and nowhere in it does it say that.

@Gobstone: We have our discussion going above regarding the differences between types of atheists, but your response to Deb is what causes Christians to see ALL atheists as the enemy. I do not think the man, Jesus, was a "crazy psychopath", but even if I did, I would have enough respect for an obviously passionate Christian to not refer to him in that way We are often seen as the enemy just by asking questions--much less insulting the founder of their faith.

Also, I don't see any reason to take issue with the question as phrased. Yes, it may be a bit leading, but I don't read into it that Deb is saying we are bad people. She may feel that way, but I don't see it in the question.

And as to the "hours of darkness", it is stated in three of the four Gospels (no mention of darkness was made in the Gospel of John) that there was darkness from the sixth hour until the ninth hour. I have already commented on that above, so I will leave it at that. But there is no reason these debates cannot be done in a civil manner.
