Help.. A bird got in.. see more below

A small seagull got into my bathroom and it's so scared that it pecks at my hand when I try to catch it. I have no heavy gloves or a net. I want to set it free, but the window doesn't open. I think it came in through the chimney because the furnace is in the bathroom.

If you have no net or heavy gloves to catch the bird, you can use light clothing or a blanket to cover it. Grab it when it's still covered and take it out and set it free. You can also call the animal control unit in your area to help free the bird.

Try throwing a blanket or towel over it, if it works then keep it over it til you grab him and put him outside

Thanks 14Sweetie, I used a curtain becaise the blanket and towel were both a little heavy. The bird remained with it's claws tangled in the curtain and started screetching in distress. So the little girl across the street came over wearing leather BBQ gloves and de-tangled the birds claws. Now we're friends, along with her mom and dad.

And one scared but happy seagull flew off towards the beach.

I'm glad it was able to help a little and the bird is now out safely :-)

Breaking news.... the bird was not a baby seagull... My little friend from across the street printed an article with a picture of it. It was a male Yellow Bellied Sapsucker which is a relative of the woodpecker. That explains why it was pecking furiously at my hand when I tried to capture it.
