I was too young to see his moon landing, but he's been one of heroes ever since i was old enough to understand what he did! My 5 year old knows what he did too, it's up to us as parents to teach our kids about him and Buzz and Cernan and the others because it'd just not something people talk much about anymore.
Well.. He walked on the moon a couple months before I was born.. but my parents were always really into the space program and I have lots of fond memories surrounding watching launches on TV and going to see the very first Space Shuttle at Kennedy Center as it was being piggy-backed to Florida for it's first flight and seeing one land at Edwards Air Base.... so I guess He had an impact on my life in a round about way by sparking a love for the space program in my whole family :)
My Dad told me that he was at a "Rush" concert and they stopped the whole thing and played the radio over the speakers ! Everyone heard what he said and the crowd cheered ! Amazing man and a great feat ! Wish someone would jump-start our space program again ! My Dad and a whole crowd were affected !
I sat mesmerized during the whole thing and really felt a tingle when his boot hit the moons surface. It was a great achievement and one of the greatest moments in my life. I believe that 12 men actually walked on the moon, but the only name I remember is Neil Armstrong.
