The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit were super books (look how many things were in the Harry Potter books) the movies were a disappointment. Who ever cast Frodo & Sam needs to find another job. I kept waiting for the orcs to start cheering Rudy, Rudy! They were okay but they focused on a lot of fluff trying make you care about the characters & it never happened. Maybe if Steven Tyler had jumped in & start singing Dude looks like a lady to the elves or something

Yes, the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy is excellent! The characters are well developed, and the costumes and special effects are spectacular! A friend of mine read the books and she said that the movie trilogy was pretty close. They are on my favorite movie list. This December "The Hobbit" will be in theaters- a "prequel" to the trilogy. Most all of the same actors appear to continue their rolls which is cool (I hate it when half the actors are replaced in a movie series!). I will admit that I've never read any of the books though. In Junior High I tried to read the Hobbit but found it too "wordy" and got bored with it. Could have been that I was just too young for it. I'm looking forward to the new movie... it looks just as awesome as the first three!
The Lord of the Rings books have been compared to Homer and Milton. It's been voted the best book of the 20th century by four different surveys. Check out the YouTube vids by Peter Kreeft, Ralph Wood, Joseph Pearce and Theater of the Word Inc.
