In my geometry class they asked for me to graph the linear function and determine whether the slopes are positive or negative....so what makes a slope positive and negative?

Report as

Y=kx+b is a form of a linear function.if k is positive, the slope is positive and goes through quadrant 1 and 3. If k is negative , slope is negative ang goes through quadrant 2 and 4.

Left to right or right to left its common algebra haha

Report as
so which is positive and which is negative?? ya ddnt really answer my question....

nvm I got it...thank you anyways:)
Report as
Haha sorry but ok that's great
Report as

m=delta y over delta x. if that comes out negative, the slopes negative. if on a graph the lines slanted down, slopes negative.

Thank You!!!

To find the slope= Rise(up/down)/Run(left/right). If the line is rising upwarrd to the right it is increasing and if its going downward its decreasing.

I kno how to graph it and everythin but Idk whether its positive or negative
Report as
anyways Thank You!!! :)

If it goes up from left to right it is
POSITIVE.
If it goes down from left to right it is
NEGATIVE.
