What do you guys think about teenage pregnancy?

I just wanted to know what different people thought about teen pregnancy. Because in my honest opinion, I don't see why people still get surprised when a teen becomes pregnant. as sad as it is to say it, teen pregnancy is almost EXPECTED now.

Report as

they should either wait or use protection if they insist on having sex (which they probably will) if they do get pregnant though they should be allowed to make the decision on what to do with the baby on their own (still having some parental influence) I think abortion is only okay for this if the girl is too young to consent or if the sex was forced (rape) I'd say adoption personally. The dad should support the mom every step of the way no matter what it does to his future and social life. (unless she says no or he's abusive) and that even if he isn't physically in the childs life he should be involved through birthday/christmas/holiday gifts and or cards and should pay child support. I think once you become someones parent you are forever no matter how it happened. It's sad that this happens but we need better ways of not only preventing it from occurring at all but also more efficient ways of supporting the victims.

I think they should wait for sex and if they cant use protection. It makes me sad but not sorry for them because they got themselves into that mess.

Do you know that though? Some teens are more mature than you might think. Plus they could have family help.

Well, I always try to look on the bright side, so ... it's a great way for married couples to adopt unwanted children.

Not all teens are going to want to give their baby up for adoption. And just because a teen had a baby, doesn't mean it's unwanted.
Report as
Did I say "EVERY SINGLE TEEN PREGNANCY IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND WAS UNWANTED AND GIVEN UP FOR ADOPTION"? No, I didn't. But "accidental" babies are better off with an adopted stable adult family.

You didn't have to be an ass about it, I misunderstood.

Just making my point, you don't have to whine about it.

it is the most irresponsible thing a girl can do... if you don't know how to use protection then you should not be having pre-marital sex!

What if they did use protection? It can fail.

I think that even if it was planned, it was a selfish and immature act. They won't be able to provide for the child given the circumstances that they have.

That's not necessarily true. I know a lot of teens who provide very well for their child.
Report as
sunshine_gurl
Even if you start out providing well, it more than likely won't stay like that for long. Teens will still want to have a social life, and leave their child quite often, even if its with a babysitter. I just don't think that their minds are matured enough to take on the responsibility of a child.
Report as
thatonegirl123
Some teens are willing to give that up to support a child. For example, I'm more worried about supporting my child so he/she grows healthy and happy then going out and partying acting dumb.
Report as
sunshine_gurl
Most teens aren't like that though. And, besides, when the teen and their child gets older the mom would be acting more of a friend to the child than a mother.
Report as
thatonegirl123
And that doesn't always happen. You can't just go and assume everything in movies is true.
Report as
sunshine_gurl
Movies? I'm not basing anything off of movies. And I didn't say that it ALWAYS happens, did I? I answered your question. That's that.

I'm all for people making their own choices. I'm against when they need govt help to support the baby.

I think that all teenagers should be paid to be on birth control.

Nothing is fool proof. Pay them a bonus for not getting PG.
.
Why do you think so many teenagers are PG? Are TV programs influencing girls to want to join the teenage mother's club?
.
What surprises me is how many people are ignorant about how these things happen. I paid attention in my junior high school health education class. What's the problem?

You clearly don't want to hear opinions (based on the comments) you only want to hear people who agree with you. So here it is: TEEN PREGNANCY IS GREAT!!! THEY DONT EVER STRUGGLE OR EVEN HAVE A HARD TIME FINISHING SCHOOL, YOU NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT A SINGLE THING AND ITS TOTALLY SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE! There ya go. Just a bit of my own opinion, yes it happens and no I don't think it should be "normal". People need to start educating their children and stop relying on other people to do it for them.

I just like trying to get people to understand things from another point of view. No need to be a smart ass.
Report as
Not being a smart ass like you're not trying to get people to see the other side. Get over yourself dear and realize you and your "opinion" need to open up. Being such an uneducated closed minded person won't get you far.

If the parents make it work, without resorting to abortion, then I don't have a problem with it

i think that its out of control but i also believe it comes from lack of knowledge i believe alot of teens think it wont happen to them so they become extremely careless and when it does happen to them they dont know what to do or they want no part of it
