We thought it was legit but when my husband tried to collect his funds (after numerous calls) they claimed there was "suspicious activity" on the account. When he asked what kind of activity (especially since they had told him a check was mailed "no problem") (and that he worked with everyone who donated) they would not disclose what the "activity" was.
He was put on hold 5 times in 1 hour and hung up on without any interaction. I donated to his charity, paid my credit card bill and have not received the refund they claimed they sent to all the donors.
My husband was given the runaround for 2 months before the "suspicious activity" was reported to him and no supervisor or higher up will take his call to explain what is going on with the account.
I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS WAY OF FUNDRAISING. I am calling our local tv troubleshooter to ask for help.
GoFundMe is a legit online fundraising website. It allows users to create fundraising campaigns for any projects non profit or not. The expenses include a 5% deduction on every donation plus 2.9% for using PayPal. For more details go to http://www.gofundme.com/online-fundraising/.
I just looked at gofundme.com after reading their disclaimers and what you can't get money for. The list includes everything a person can think of, so don't think you will get a dime but they will. If you actually do get money, the fee they get is not entirely clear. it says 2.9% plus 0.30. does that mean 30 cents for every dollar collected plus 2.9%, plus it doesn't say if the % is annual or daily. Unless they have a clear contract I would never do any such business with them and remember it is a contract! read it carefully! If you have no understanding of contracts then it would be best if you never sign or click one. This companies activities should be under federal investigation. The world gets much worse when people take advantage of the needy.

I would just like to add that within a few days of making a donation on this site, my personal debit account was accessed and purchases totaling $650 were made in France (I have NEVER been there). I am not saying that this was the fault of gofundme.com, but what I am saying is that this was the only thing I did different from my usual routine. I had to close my account and submit a form to try and get my money back.
I would like to hear from others if you have had this experience after making a donation on gofundme.com.
the funny thing is that this site are giving you hope for funds like with myself I need money for my operation but what is funny it shows 0.00 money raised if you look at other people's profiles they raised thousands of dollars . my e mail email@example.com
so far it seems like a scam to me. I spent about 100 dollars advertising on facebook. and facebook ads said that I was getting hundreds of hits to my gofundme.com site. Also, I was getting lots of shares on facebook on the gofundmesite. So I know people were going to the site.
I emailed the support people there and they told me it takes up to 24 hours for the site to update its view count. That sounds kinda weird. Also I have not received any donations except the first two that were made by my parents and a friend. If i don't receive donations in the next few days and the number of people visiting the site vs the number of people FB tells me have gone to the site don't match I am filing a complaint with the AG in Texas. I would not be surprised if they were keeping the money.
