How do i get a motion detector light to start working again?

i just moved into a house and thought it was just a regular spotlight...i found out later from the previous owner that it is a motion detector light and i may have unprogrammed it by turning on and off so much (when i was trying to get floodlights to come on) the bulbs are fine and he said it was working when he moved out (a month ago)
