A hamster is cheap, easy to care for and you can hold him. I had them when I was little and had tons of fun with them. Guinea pigs are fun too but a little more expensive.

You can always get a hamster! Or a gerbil! There not rats. You can also get a bunny rabbit, or a pet bird! Maybe a snake (If your not the girly type) (:
Hope this helped! All of these animals are pretty cheap also!

A hamster.and not all dogs are expensive you can go to a pet shop and some time they will have a board of lost and adoption pets and some are free and small ones are not to bad but you can also get a rabbit and some rabbits can walk around in a house like a dog or a ferret would be cool.

A hamster or a guinea pig will come in the same category of rodents, so if you detest rats then you would also not like these two also. You can opt for rabbits or birds.

Guinea pigs. And I don't think you should get a pet until you've really decided what pet to get, and do some real research.

Back in the late 1980s to early 1990s you could buy a pet rock. They are a perfect pet for people with allergies, and require no food or water. I don't know if they are still around.
