Is my PlayStation controller broken?

If I press right on the d-pad, the left button doesn't move. If I do this on my Dualshock 2, it moves (as in the whole thing is one piece [connected], whereas on my original PS controller it's two pieces). Is this normal? It's not a dualshock it's an original BTW.

It is possible that your PlayStation controller is broken. A broken controller has the whole connection as one so even if you try to press a different button, only the same reaction will take place. It would be good for you to get a new controller.

Have you tried playing a game with it and checked if the directions work there?
If you recently purchased it then maybe you should return it.
