Do you guys have any last minute tips about college?

I start my first day of college tomorrow and I'm just wondering if you guys have any last minute tips for me. I'm going local so I'll be living at home, but anything about obscure things to bring with me or whatever you can think of would be awesome! Thanks!! (:

From my personal experience? Always carry a fully charged cell phone and an extra pen and paper. My first day I was so nervous, I forgot to bring any extras, and missed an assignment. My phone could have worked as a recorder, but it wasn't charged. I got so caught up with the newness of everything, two days later I found out in class I had an assignment due, and since I didn't know anyone and forgot to ask, I felt like an idiot. Since that day, I can't tell anyone enough to make sure you are always prepared with those. You will always find yourself in a situation where you will need to put them to good use. Enjoy your 1st day! It's a great experience!

Thanks! That's great advice! I did remember to throw my phone charger in my backpack so I can charge it in the library while I'm studying (:

Just be yourself you'll be amazed how many fakes you meet on campus . Choose your friends carefully. Be very careful of the people you meet 25 percent of women got raped on campus. Focus on your studies you're not there to be the life of the party. Most of all put God first In everything.

Thanks (: I'm always myself and I tell it like it is, so I will be sure to stay away from the fakes. I don't trust people too easily either so I think I'll be alright (:

Treat it like a 40-hour a week job, and you will do well and still have time to enjoy friends and activities.

Professors can be awesome or terrible! I had one that was all about being on time... Good professor but not understanding! He would drop you a letter grade for being 5 minutes late. Another professor I had was very modern and clued in... Used everyday examples and really pulled the class in! I loved her! I hope you get the best professors because the good ones make college fun, easy, and a wonderful experience!

College parties are the best too (just don't let them ruin all your hard work)

Good luck and CONGRATS!!!

After the first day, I already can relate to the crummy professors who mark down for tardiness and absences. Yikes! I better not get really sick any time soon! Thanks (:

The most valuable things I learned my freshman year was pretty simple.

DO NOT SKIP CLASS. It is very easy to pass if you attend every session and take notes. Don't overwhelm yourself. Myself, plus most of my friends, entered college thinking we could take on multiple activities, jobs, etc. College isn't like high school. Regardless of how you handled stress in high school, it's a whole new atmosphere in college. It's not that the material is necessarily harder, but it's VERY time-consuming. Expect to spend a few hours a day studying, writing essays, etc. Enjoy yourself. Make friends, and go out. Academics come first of course, but remember that college is supposed to be the best years of your life. Go out and have a good time.

Good luck! :D

Make friends with the TA's. They do all the work while the profs are busy trying to get published, and can tell you what the profs are looking for in the exams and papers. They're easy to befriend too since they have lonely and thankless jobs.

Also, don't know how set you degree path is, but may I make a suggestion that saved me TONS of money? take as many of your GEC courses at community college. I know, I know, community college carries negative associations, but there is no sense in paying thousands and even tens of thousands of dollars on courses you can take for a few hundred that are just as good. Community college is also where people who want to learn meet people who want to teach. this can be a refreshing change from a university where all the students already think they know everything and the professors usually have about a trillion things they would rather be doing than lecturing undergrads.

I totally agree!! I am attending a community college, in fact and I know what you're saying about saving TONS! My friends who are going to 4-year universities are wasting SOOOO much money!

Awesome! It's such a relief to get to your 4-year college and be able to focus on your major. Have a great time, learn a lot, and keep everything in perspective! Cheers!
