Are republicans really trying to make abortion illegal?

Report as

Yes, and in all cases except Romney. 90% of them are against it for any reason. They (GOP) say we all deserve the right to be individuals and live our lives our own way EXCEPT when it comes to a woman's uterus. Romney does think it should be allowed in cases of rape and incest but some of the others in the GOP think rape qualifies as a form of contraception, while others make false claims that women don't get pregnant when they are raped.

I understand what your saying, but is any Republican running on that platform. Or promising to make it illegal if elected or re-elected? I honestly don't think they are, they have enough sense to know that would be career suicide. Well all except the one politician who successfully stuck his foot in his mouth by saying that a woman's body would reject becoming impregnated if it were rape.
Report as
Honestly...once they start spouting things like 'women can't get pregnant when raped' and 'rape is a form of conception' I run away from listening to them so I would not know if any plan on making it illegal but I have heard a few made sure to get funding pulled from groups that aide women who might need them. I have a theory...every time a woman get pregnant without planning, a man has to have a vasectomy. If that were even offered up as a balance of power...everyone would stop reaching inside my belly and telling me what I can or cannot do.
Report as
Yes you are right about that politician and Romney asked him to back out of the race and he wouldn't he apologized and now he is running neck and neck with his opponent so who knows what's in the people's hearts.
Report as
If one person who was a democrat said alien exist would the whole party be blamed or would the one person be dismissed as a nut. Same theory on the abortion issue.
Report as
There was no "they" in that monumentally gnorant statement. One guy.
"They" have not condoned it and told the one guy to step down. You know you are lying when you say "they".
Report as
Look, I have not heard any of the stuff Dems are saying about this. I spent too much time reading articles where male Pubs as you call them made false claims about how the female reproductive system works during rape or how rape is just another way to get pregnant.
Report as
Grande...Akin said women don't get pregnant when they are raped. He is a GOP and that is not true based on science. Paul Ryan made an off hand comment that rape was just another form of contraception. He is a GOP and that is eluding that rape is ok and just a way to get a woman pregnant. There have been several others making just as badly worded comments in the GOP. There are 2, not one..and if you like...I will go get the names of others for you!
Report as
Caroline Kennedy said tonight, that over a dozen states have passed over 40 restrictions on woman's reproductive health in this past tr alone. ..... What states and what were the restrictions?
Report as
Yes You read the articles that the Dems made sure were published about ONE GUY and his rantings. The Pubs even were against this guy. The Paul Ryan comment was taken out of context like all political quotes are. Both sides.
Report as
Paul's comment and Akins were both said during interviews. But now you say the Dems made it up? again...are you hearing inside your head what you are saying?
Report as
ps..I am peeved at both sides now but i studied debate. and we fact check instead of speaking from half stories and rumors. i have seen both interviews. the Dems did not make those up. those words came out of Akins and Ryans mouths, out of context or not.

But is the republican party claiming if they get into office they will mk it illegal. Or is it propaganda being said by the democrats
Report as
I suggest you seek Akins view (GOP), Helms RiP (GOP) and others in the GOP do say all abortion should be illegal. Romney says it should be allowed but only in cases of rape and incest.
Report as
There are many Pubs that are against abortion. They are not the majority. As I said, this has been a scare tactic that the Dems use. They have been using it since Reagan.
Report as
The most truthful answer is no. There are many Pubs against it, but the right to abortion will not be an issue the Pubs are worried about.
Report as
well, for the record i have not heard one GOP come out for pro-choice. and if you know of one, please let me know. it would be nice to think that not all GOPS want control over my belly.
Report as
They will never be pro choice doesn't mean your are against something
Report as
ummm...did you hear that comment in your head as you said it? by logic alone, if you are not for something, most likely you are against it. if you were neutral on it you would not even debate it or care one way or another.
Report as
I'm not for murdering people, but if a serial killer gets caught, then goes to trial and gets convicted, then I'm all for putting him to death.
Report as
Newbuddah, the dems use it as scare tactics? It was a GOP state that wanted to pass a law where a woman had to explain to her employer why she should be able to get birth control. It is GOP who wants abortion outlawed period. It is GOP who apparently think women just think " hmm, let me get my hair done, pop in for a quickie abortion and then go shopping.
Report as
ty boo...and many do not know that when abortions were not legal...poor women died in back alley clinics while rich women went to hospitals and had them under the guise of a DNC with a doctor to make sure they were healthy.
Report as
"There are many Pubs that are against abortion. They are not the majority."

I think this might be the first time I've ever disagreed with you, Bro. Anti-abortion IS the majority of not just the 'Pubs but the country as a whole. And it's a winning issue for Con/Pubs, according to the polls the nation has been leaning pro-life for about 20 years now, but the Donks have everybody thinking pro-choice is a winning issue for them. Their propaganda machine is indeed very strong.
Report as
Tony, get your hand off my uterus!
Report as
My hand isn't touching you, keep your legs closed and you won't have to murder your own child.
Report as
Tony, I would have died if not for a safe place to go. You don't even know my story and already made assumptions! I find that very funny....and before you try to pull a fast one. I was over 18, with someone I loved, did not sleep around and got pregnant using 3 forms of birth control before my body decided for me. My choice was...bleed to death or get help. And yes...your hand is inside my body when you tell me what I can or cannot do. Mine may have been a medical need, but I don't tell you what to do with your body...so stay out of mine!
Report as
You're talking about an emergency suituation, I'm talking about using abortion as a form of birth control.
Report as
" I don't tell you what to do with your body...so stay out of mine! "

What about the baby's body? The baby's choice? How about adoption instead of murder?
Report as
And you don't know history very well. Even if they are made illegal, they will take place. In back alleys and women will die. All while women of means will have a doctor cover it up. That is what happened before they were legal and history mostly repeats itself. Oh, and for the record, the only hospital near me at the time was Catholic, and they told me to go home and keep my feet up. If not for a kind doctor who told me to call his office outside of the hospital, no one would have told me my life was in danger. Making it illegal will mean other women will not be given the whole story in emergency cases...just like mine. They just told me to go home and put my feet up for goodness sake...they did not tell me how bad it was going to get.
Report as
Yeah some people are stupid enough to try the hanger, that's what we've gotta change. Teach young people to wait until they're married, I know, I know, crazy talk, right? There's no need for a hanger when there are married couples waiting for years to adopt.
Report as
Tony, through all history kids have gone against their parents. Good luck with that idea of asking them all to wait! I was the only one of my friends to wait til I was an adult...the rest started between 11-14. The ones who started the youngest lived in household where they were told to wait til they were married. My mom said to wait til we were in love because she saw all the hippies and were afraid that would influence us. Sort of like a household that does not allow booze, their kids often end up being drunks, while a those who's parents are moderate don't tend to abuse booze. If you tell a teen they are not allowed to do anything, they will want to try. You have to teach moderation, and teach being responsible for their choices and they will normally make better calls on what and when to do things. Anytime you teach them there is only one way...they are going to take a look at the other! Thats teens! As for adoption...we have over 400,000 kids in foster homes....they need to be adopted but most would rather only adopt a baby. Sad how people can ignore those kids...
Report as
So because some kids don't listen, we should just let them kiII their own babies?

Because we have kids in foster homes mean we should kiII our own babies?

KiIIing our own offspring is the answer to everything?
Report as
What do you think of Planned Parenthood targeting minority neighborhoods?
Report as
Tony, lol...love how you take a comment and turn it in to something else. I suggest you look up straw man tactic and back up. I never said what you are bringing up as questions. Why in the world would you put false words in my mouth? As for targeting...rich women can always get a doctor to cover it up in a hospital as a DNC and did before they were legal. Poor women don't have that option. It is nor targeting them, it is placing them where they are needed most...where there is no money to get a doctor to cover it up. As for kids...they are kids and their brains don't function like adults. Tell them they can't do something... they mostly try to do it. That is why we need to teach them to be responsible. That is why we need to teach them what happens if they are not. Just telling them not to do something is going to go in one ear and out the other.
Report as
"...love how you take a comment and turn it in to something else."

No, ma'am, that's what you were basically saying, all I changed was how you worded it.

"rich women can always get a doctor to cover it up in a hospital as a DNC and did before they were legal. Poor women don't have that option"

So you're saying all minority women are poor, and all white women are rich? (THAT'S changing what you said, a classic leftist tactic).

"Poor women don't have that option. It is nor targeting them, it is placing them where they are needed most"

The founder of P.P., Margret Sanger, even said it herself, she said her goal was to wipe out the black race, it is indeed targeting.
Report as
By the way, I'm very sorry to hear about your medical emergency, and the way you were treated :-(
Report as
sighh I never said: So you're saying all minority women are poor, and all white women are rich? NO, it is not what I am saying, basically or otherwise. And now you use comments said by Sanger between 1920-1923? Really? Comments made before the civil rights movement? A woman who dies in 1966...sighhh. Straw man, straw dog...defend what you argue that I said. I'll debate with you again when you stay on point instead of trying to bait me.
Report as
"I never said: So you're saying all minority women are poor, and all white women are rich? NO, it is not what I am saying"

I know, I was being facetious, that's why I said ... <<<(THAT'S changing what you said, a classic leftist tactic).>>>

" And now you use comments said by Sanger between 1920-1923? Really? "

Yes because they're STILL DOING IT, they still target minority neighborhoods, Margaret Sanger was a socialist with the same views of modern socilaist, only difference is that she did it overtly.

Hey, Marcus. I wanted to thank you for commending my answer back on Obama. It's getting heated over there. I've had to be rescued 2 more times! So, I read your profile, & I can't describe in words how much I love my...well, I can't even call her anything but my 4-legged baby. She's of the persuasion of what you have - you know, barks, licks, loves unconditionally, etc.! And you said you didn't get much of a chance to talk and I don't know what Synesthesia is, so I thought I'd just ask you instead of looking it up. Feel like talking or too late? Well, really, I'm the one that should be in bed. I'm older than dirt. ;-)
Report as
Oh, she's absolutely adorable! What breed is she?

Thank you for asking. Synesthesia is a brain condition which is a mix of two or more senses. I haven't been diagnosed with it, but I believe to have three kinds: 1. Hearing-motion (or "sight-to-sound"), which means I hear noises conducted from my eyes when I see movement. 2. Touch-to-sound, which means I hear noises conducted from my nerves when I touch things. 3. Grapheme-to-personality, which means I see personalities in letters, numbers and symbols. All of these abnormal senses are going on for me at every second, including now, and I can't turn them off.

Goodnight!

Oh, thank you, dear. I've never had a purebred before. I've always taken in strays. And I've always said I'd NEVER have a chihuahua because I thought they were yippy, yappy, ankle-biting little things. Well, that's what Sierra is, and she's the light of my life. She was given to me because she developed some psychological problems - mainly separation anxiety from her previous owner & I work well with animals (or people) who have personality problems.

Wow, Marcus, that's amazing stuff you're having to deal with. I'll have to say I've never heard of that. Man, you sure seem to be handling it well. I see your answers and you seem to be very wise for your age. I'm really interested in hearing more if you wouldn't mind talking about it sometime? Just start writing & I'll respond. You sure are special!! God Bless!
Report as
I had a dog who had some issues, too. What a pretty name Sierra has. Bless you for taking care of her! How old is she?

Oh, I don't "have to deal with" Synesthesia. It's no burden at all; I did have to go through some emotional trouble knowing that I'm different from everyone else, but I don't think that's a common thing to go through for synesthetes. Actually, me telling you about this is like you telling a deaf person about sound! They might think "Wow, all of those noises going into your brain at once! It must be overwhelming." But really, our brains are made to perceive things.
Report as
Hey, Marcus! It's great to hear from you. Sorry I'm just now getting this notification that you wrote, but I'm sure glad I did! Sierra is turned 5 in June. I got her December 25, 2009. I had back surgery performed on me in Sept. and it went bad & I was in a hospital bed in the living room. She was so bad off that she spent, literally, the entire next year in that bed (up in my gown, lol,) with me. She thought she was gonna die when I started going out on the front porch & asking the neighbors come up & pet her. It was like, "MOM, you've got to be kidding, right? Nooooooo!" LOL Now, she greets EVERYBODY!

You know, in some ways, I wonder how much you could understand something I've got that you really can't explain to others. Except when you're in the throws of it, it IS horrible. It's Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Do you know much about that? Boy, IT makes you different from everybody else because noises, smells, things you might see (and if you have a photographic memory like me--well, it can be really tough) can make you so sensitive people don't understand. So to try to take care of yourself, you have to try and shield yourself from simple things like the news or certain conversations..almost impossible to do. I may not be making any sense at all. I hope to talk again. I take it you don't have a dog anymore? Or maybe, hopefully, you do and it's just normal? I find you just fascinating and so sensitive and kind. God Bless You!!
Report as
How loyal of her! I wish my dogs were like that. Haha. I hope your back is better. Are you okay now?

I THINK I might have had PTSD one time, but I'm not sure. I know I had *something*. I'm sorry but I don't know what you're trying to say. What do you mean, "Shield myself?" Just to let you know, I'm over all of the emotional stuff.
Report as
Oh, I should have used, what do you call it when you're talking about yourself? Well, I can't think. I should have said, "So I try to take care of myself, I have to try and shield myself..." Did I talk in the second person? I was talking about myself, not you. Unfortunately, this is "my" emotional stuff and I was saying people don't understand my sensitivity to the news, etc.
Report as
Oh, and thanks for asking about my back. It'll always be messed up, unfortunately. I just try to deal with it. Some days are worse than others. You know, I bet your Mom's so proud of you, Marcus. You are just SO kind. I wish you were my son.
Report as
Thanks for the compliment. :]

Oh, I get you. I'm sorry you find it hard to be understood. If it counts, I think I know what you mean. Do you mean worldly matters are often just too sad or spiteful?

What's wrong with your back? Do you want to talk about it?
Report as
Well, sweetie, I guess my back is the least of my problems..just very painful. I had a buldging disk and had one of the best doctor (supposedly in the nation) that, I thought, was going to put in a "newly developed" 'fake' disk. Instead, I came out with a titanium rod, screws, and a cage in my back. A nurse jerked on my leg in the hospital, and after that, I was put in rehab for 10 day - made to do the "wrong exercises" (according to home health physical therapist) and that's about all she wrote. So now it's just chronic pain, sometimes acute, but I've really got a LOT more going on physically that's, well kinda threatening my life right now. But I'd rather talk about you. I don't like people think I'm having a pity party. I can look 1/4 mile down the road & find someone a whole lot better off than me. I'm not a quadra or paraplegic. I just count my blessing every day. Afterall, I've got a soft bed to sleep in every night. Some people don't even have that, do they?

And, yeah, it's the worldly matters that make me so sad, not spiteful, that I just want to die sometimes. You know, things I can't do anything about. I'll bring it up this one time, but only once. I saw it while it was happening & as I said, I have a photo. memory, but I can hardly stand anyone bringing up 9/11. I can just see a caption about a picture, or just a picture that will make me so unbelievably sad. And especially if it comes to the mistreatment of babies or animals. (more)
Report as
I'm very hesitant to share this with you, Marcus, because I'd hate to lose your friendship, but I'll be honest even though it shows how crazy I am. I've never done this when anybody hurt me. (My ex-husband was EXTREMELY abusive.) But I've cut myself before because it was the only way I could deal with the pain someone else was going through - it's like I had to share in the pain they must be feeling. The last time I did it was when I heard about a little 2-year old girl whose parents rolled her up in a blanket, tucked the ends in the ends of the couch so she couldn't move. They wanted her to be quiet. When she still wouldn't shut up, the daddy sat on her chest. I felt myself in that blanket, etc. I can't go on. Others: The tsunami in Japan, disasters that involve people I can't do anything about. I hope to hear back from you. If not, I understand.
Report as
Of course you'll hear back from me.

I'm sorry about everything. I don't know what to say. I hope this makes you feel better: I find that even though some people may be handicapped in any way (I hope you don't mind my using that word), it always makes them SO much better of a person than most other people.
Report as
Thanks for writing back, Marcus. I was getting worried. My notification never showed up that you had responded. That was an awfully lot to lay on you and I'm sorry I did. There's nothing to say really. I mean it's been over 2 years since I've done it. I just feel people's pain like I'm actually there. Just like I can finish people's sentences, know what they're thinking...people say, "You scare me!!! How'd you know that?" I just giggle and say, "I'm sorry. I just did." But my pastor says I'm very sensitive to my surroundings and watch people's faces and really listen to them, really "read between the lines." Ah, who knows, I never REALLY have been right in the head! ROFL And, BTW, no, I don't mind you using that word and, once again, you're so sweet. Can't wait to hear from you again. We keep this up, I just need to give you my email!!! BTW, you can call me Susan, did I tell you that? God Bless You, Marcus.
Report as
Well, good night, Marcus. I'm afraid I've scared you off. I do regret telling you aout my sensitivity. I'm much too much of an open book. That's why I'd rather talk about what's going on in your life. Besides, that's not even the big thing going on with me now. That's just something I don't tell many people about. My main problem right now is physical. It's my potassium level. I go to a big University Hospital on Friday to see if they can't figure out why I can't keep it up. It keeps going dangerously low. It you wouldn't mind sending up a prayer or two I'd appreciate it. If we don't talk anymore, have a good evening.
Report as
I'm sorry, Susan, but I'm always rushed to get on and off Ask. I don't really have time to say "Talk to you soon" or anything like that. My time on Ask is fragmented each day.

No one is talking about it. Abortion is legal, the law of the land, the Supreme Court says it is illegal to stop it, and nobody is talking of a law or a constitutional amendment to stop it. What the Democrats are doing is creating a straw dog. Same thing with the phony war on women. Gotta fire up the base, so you lie about something and make Republicans the boogie man at the door. Pathetic.

ok, how about the late Helms? he preached the same words for a long time and no one threw him under the bus? or how about the off hand comment from Ryan about 'rape being a form of conception'? Don't you think it is a slippery slope when a leader suggests in any way shape or form that rape is a way to get a woman pregnant no matter the context? I know it makes me worry some crazy man will use it as a defense for rape one day. Sure, most men would not but trust me, men who tend to rape women are not sane to begin with and I can just see some of them now using that as a defense because a man in power said it.

Shelly, you may want to change the flavor of coolaid as this flavor is driving you into a partisan divide.
Honestly, Democrats want to make government funding of abortion a right. They want to have no restrictions on abortion, and partial birth abortion made legal. Most Americans find this practice barbaric. Most Americans do not want to make abortions funded by government, nor part of the healthcare legislation.
