At what era did the catapult stop being used?

It is believed that the catapult stopped being used around 1987. The catapult machines fired arrows from a bow not much tougher than one man could draw. They were built of composite materials.

Catapults stop being used about the time gunpowder became available in Europe. I'm not sure what era that was.
