Does anyone else think that if a different language was taught while kids are young, it would work out better?

I think that if we taught kids something like spanish or french while they're in kindergarten instead of high school, the kids would actually learn the whole language. Because lets face it, When you take a language class in high school you forget everything the next grade or semester.

Definitely as children learn best when they're young and it helps set them up for the future, however, it has to be fun and engaging in order for them to remember it well. Also it should continue as they grow. I started to learn French when I was 8(???) but because I didn't continue learning French and stopped after about 2 yrs i can only remember the basics like hello and how are you.

I agree, I'm sure something could easily be worked out, but people are lazy nowadays.

yes, when you are young, your ability to learn is better for you do have a sharp brain, alert, fresh and ESPECIALLY, no ego problems. It is said "You can't teach an old dog new tricks"

Ah, you make a valid point. I wish more people who have the authority over these things started thinking about it.

There are schools called magnet schools that teach in second languages beginning in 2nd grade so by the time the children move to junior high they are bilingual.
