What is meant by the term ' poetic justice ' ?

Imagine someone who likes to bully others finally meeting up with a bigger bully than him or herself. Or someone who steals from others having their entire house cleared out by burglars while they are on vacation. Both are examples of poetic justice. Basically, it is someone getting exactly what they deserve.
