How to read guitar tabs?

Report as

Guitar tab has six lines, representing the six strings on a guitar. The numbers represent the frets that have a finger. The lines, read bottom to top: E A D G B E
so the following is a C chord (or a bad attempt at one anyway)

E: -----
B: 1----
G: -----
D: 2----
A: 3----
E: x

and this is a Em chord with additional strings played after the strum.

e:-7---------------7--------
B:-7---------7-------------
G:-7-----7-------7---------
D:-9---9---9---9-----------
A:-9--------------------------
E:-7-------------------------

I hope that helps!

Six lines for six strings. The top line is high e string. e b g d a E. yes it's upside down. The numbers represent the frets. A 0 means open string. Practice with various forms of scales. Have fun.
