You can't. It's an inherited Anemia, common among people of mediterranean decent like Greeks, Italians. There are two levels, major and minor. The body does not have the ability to absorb and hold iron. With minor you might be fatigued, if anything. The thing to watch for is if you decide to have children test to make sure your partner is not positive, otherwise two minor (together) produce major in baby. It's a pretty common disorder however no amount of vitamins, foods, etc. can bring the iron levels up to normal.

The treatment used for thalessemia will vary depending on the type and severity of the disorder, with the most common type of treatment being a blood transfusion and iron chelation therapy. Carriers of alpha or beta thalassemia need little or no treatment. There is more information on this at http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health//dci/Diseases/Thalassemia/Thalassemia_Treatments.html.
