Whats the changes of one 5 mm spot on my left lung of being cancer?

I will be 32 years old next month and hate to admit that yes I am a smoker and have been since before I was 18. I have been sick with brincitus for about 2 week and a week ago when I went to the doctor they took a chest xray to rule out phenomena. They gave me shots and meds for my broncitus and sent me home. Four days later, they call me wanting me to come back in for a ct scan. I go and aparently they found that I have a 5mm spot on my left lung also discover I have a hernia?!?! But, my concern is, I am young ans yes maybe a smoker. But it was just one spot. They are sending me to a lung specialist Oct 5th, But, I have to worry and think about it until then. I am already a worry wart and worry about everything. I guess my question is, what is the likely hood of it being cancer. She said that it may just be a small cyst and may not be nothing to worry but she couldn't tell me anything for certain.I am just freaking out a little, I have three children and the youngest is 10months old. Any comments are welcome, and yes, I know I need to stop smoking, that is my goal now, is to stop!!

Half of us don't know what Hermia is, we have to google it to know. Don't you think this is something you should have told your doctor? Your concerns and whatnot. Your addicted to smoking and you won't stop. If only you knew how much smoking affects kids at a young age. I had a friend that smelled like smoke, EVERYONE teased her.

Thank you for your response, I really do need to quite smoking and really wish I hadn't ever started. I was young and dumb when I started. Now, its like pulling teeth, it just scared me when they told me about the spot. And a hernia is pretty much a pulled stomach muscle that knots up, nothing to do with my lungs. They just seen it when they did the xray & ct scan. And I don't smoke around my children and dare them to ever start, lol. I just hope I have the strength to quit, I have an appointment with my Doctor Tuesday to get on the patch. Just wish me luck & Thanks.

There are high chances that the 5 mm spot could be cancer. However, it is still too early to conclude that the spot is of cancer before your complete medical records analysis and physical examination. The 5 mm spot could also be solitary pulmonary nodule.

Thanks, I was shocked when she first told me so I didnt ask her any questions about it. I guess between now and when I see the specialist I will have plenty. Just freaked out and started searching the internet. I hope its nothing, and I am going to stop smoking. :) Thanks again for your comment.

If its growing then theres a real good chance. If it doesnt grow it could be scar tissue from past infections. The fact that you smoke makes cancer much more likely. Its one of those consequences of sucking over 100 different types of toxic chemicals into your lungs on a regular basis.

Thanks for your input, anything helps. I was kind of in shock when she told me and I didnt start freaking out until after I left. I guess when I go to the specialist I will have plenty of questions. I knew I would get hell over this if I named I smoked, but I wanted to be honest. LOL But, I am going to quit! Thanks again. :)

And also, I don't really think that its a consequence from smoking, of course I do understand that smoking does have a factor. But, I know several people that has developed lung cancer and has never smoke one cigarette in their life. I know smoking doesn't help my chances any and in fact makes my chances of having lung cancer greater, but I don't believe that would be the only reason I would get cancer. I am the type that looks at things, that "s**t" happens and you move on the best you can. I'm not saying there's not things we can't do to prevent things, but it doesn't mean that it would. But, again, I am quitting, Thanks again for your input, it helps to talk about it. :)
