Wondering about my relative who taken to belching(?)

It's possible that over the years he's developed the habit for pleasure.
However , it's also possible there's an underlying medical problem, some serious and some not. Might also be a side effect of some medication he's on.
Only a doctor could tell, if he's willing to have it checked out. Ask if he has any indigestion or bloating (or pain/ache) with the belching. Or belly aches (intestinal). These might be signs of something to be checked out.
For example, one simple possibility is lactose intolerance. People can suddenly develop it in later years without knowing it, and it's easily treated.

Only a manners issue. I had a friend who did the same thing. He said it was natural. I told him crapping in your pants is natural too, but most people potty train their children.
