what would you do if your 50 year old neighbor threatened your 7 year old girl? telling her he's going to take her in his house and hit her.

He is man also

I would go to him and say polity but with hardness, "Don't talk to my daughter in that way and if she did something wrong report/inform me and don't deal with her".
And If he did it again..Police.

Who knows if this was even actually said to this child ? Were you there & where is the parent of this child while this child is constantly over at a 50 year old mans house repeadedly ??? Sounds like pretty neglegent parenting !!!!!

We don't know details like......is he a jerk or normally a nice person? She may be doing something to him or his property that you don't know about. I'd go to him and try and talk to him first and ask if there's something you need to know about. Then I would say you'll speak to her about it, and if happens again, come to you....not her about it. But if he's just a jerk..then the other answers on here would apply!

What is wrong with you thistle? You are never suppose to hit a child, that is ABUSE. Now, parents giving a child a swat on the ass isn't bad at all, but a 50 year old next-door neighbor has no rights to threaten to harm any child in america, do you understand?!

She has to live next to this guy. First ask his explaination of what happened. Possible ask a third party to moderate. Truth is not one sided but usually somewhere in the middle in these situations.

Err on the side of the child. Report him. Protect her. He is capable of defending himself and controlling himself if he did nothing wrong. She is defenseless.

Ask your little girl why he threatened to hit her, in the first place. Then , go over there and have a talk with this freak. You should tell him you will make a police report if he tries to do any thing at all to your daughter. And tell your daughter not to go near his house, that she should just play inside with her dollies or watch cartoons, because it's probably not a good idea to play near his apartment or house or whatever.
I hope she's not scared , and i hope you're not scared.

Report the cops immediately. Ask your daughter that is it the first time. Has he done so before? Is this because of some old feud? Keep your daughter away from that guy. Is he dangerous or seem so? Has he always been like that? Interrogate your daughter on these things. And calm her down if she gets too scared. Before contacting the police, ask your neighbour. What if it's just a joke? Demand him an explanation.
