Why do people insist their answers are correct?

even when you can look it up and show them the real answer, then they act like you're the stupid one.

Like Funnyman97 said; its their opinion, and even though how much you doubt it, they'll think its right in their mind. So when you show them the proof, they feel kinda stupid and they continue to deny that they are right for the sake of their dignity.

Ha! Its funny that dignity is important to people who don't even know or see each other.

Because some people think they know everything.

Some of us ARE experts in our field, who know way more than a 13-year old.
Report as
I am well aware, but i'm referring to the ones who put someone down because they simply know more on the subject.

I'm not talking about people who are actually correct. This guy said its hotter at the equator because the days are so long(and also closer to the sun which I know is right) and I told him days at the equator are 12 hours. So he called me am idiot and told me to go ask my science teacher. I'm 38 by the way.
Report as
You are absolutely correct about daylight at the equator. Just like me, it grinds your gears when you HAVE the factually correct answer and they think YOU are the stupid one! Grrrr...!

Fact questions are not opinion questions. Of course there can be different opinions on advice questions, but it is annoying when a correct answer is given on a fact question by an expert in the field and then kids argue with the expert, as has happened so many times with me when they don't believe my answer or worse, think they know better.
Report as
Yes it's a fact that daylight at the equator is 12 hours (and I'm an idiot, apparently, for saying so)
Report as
Just remember that in the morning you will still be the smart one and they will forever be the stupid one! LOL! :)

I do not answer a fact question unless I know the answer. So mine are correct. What grinds my gears is when some 13-year old doesn't believe me or worse, thinks they know better than I, an expert in several fields, and then argues with me.

I'm not an expert in science but this was an easy question.

I'm just answering your question generally, not referring to you for asking it. Yes, it is a fair question, and sorry if you misinterpreted what I said as referring to you! :)
Report as
In short, I'm agreeing with you that it is annoying.
Report as
Yes I know. It is annoying. Thanks for answering me. I haven't been on here long and I can see that a lot of folks use this site for a silly chat room.
Report as
Yep, that's one of my other complaints too. I think there should be two versions of this site, one for the kids who ask ridiculous questions because they are bored, or want us to do their homework for them; and one for adults to use as it was intended to be.

I know! That's what I thought this sight was for. That's how it's advertised. That's why joined. I love facts and I love to learn new things.
Report as
Yes, it is too bad the kids have taken over. I've noticed that we've lost several really good people lately, and I have no doubt that is the reason. :( Mods, are you listening??

Well do you know how long daylight and darkness is on the equator? Because its definitely 12 hours. I learned that in school before there was an Internet

Your point?
Report as
That the question I was referring to was something we all learn in school not something random off the Internet. Thanks for your response, I appreciate it!

Your question wasn't about anything in specific :p
