Cable TV vs. installing a high quality TV antennae in the attic? Pros & cons, please?

How well do manual antennas work, picking up signals, compared to having basic cable service?

You'll get more channels with basic cable. Not to mention you have to make sure you have a digital converter either built into your tv or you'll have to buy one separately.

Thanks Thors, appreciate your reply. (Yes, my TV has a built in digital converter.) Do you pick up the 3 major networks & PBS stations?

BT (long time no talk,) formerly known as enlightenedrougue. new moniker now. same pretty face. i've found what i think is a viable answer. get a digital antennae for your local stuff, then buy a Roku streaming device to make up for the cable. it runs off your home wifi. it's a one time purchase leaving you free of a monthly cable bill. that alone saved me $120/month. this has worked well for me.with the roku you can find plenty to watch. i realize this is an old post. let me know how it goes with you.
