Now that there are two different categories of votes, do "fun" votes still count towards my total or only "helpful" votes?

Why is it that everytime I find a cool website, they change it and ruin it?

I think it's kind of cool, actually. There are two distinctly different categories of answers so having two categories of votes only seems to make sense. You are not penalized for fun answers but honest-to-goodness-helpful answers are given top consideration, as I think it should be. I think this is their move to steer the site back to the helpful question-and-answer forum it was designed to be rather than the "Who likes 1D" fan site it has largely become.

They don't count towards your helpful votes from what I've observed. I don't really know what the point of the "fun" votes are.

Not in the great, overall scheme of things, no. Green thumbs are like fun bucks. You can't redeem for anything but it's still nice to collect them.

We're only displaying helpful votes in your profile because we want to encourage helpful answers. Fun votes just give people a way to vote for answers that are entertaining or fun. Who knows, we might do something with them sometime in the future.

@pieman23: Really? Now you can be rewarded whether you're being helpful or having fun (and you can reward others as well). Why would that make things worse? I think it's a great improvement! :)

LOL! You know you can block specific categories by going to your Settings, right? That will help cut down some of that noise.

You can access it from a computer or on a mobile browser. If you're on a mobile browser (not the Ask app), make sure that you scroll to the bottom of the page and click "full site." Once you do that, you can login and go to Settings in the upper right. Click on "Personal Set." and you'll see all the categories listed on that page. Click on the ones you want to block and click "save changes" at the bottom of the page. Questions from those categories will no longer show up for you in Browse.

About 45 minutes to an hour ago. Some people already seem pretty upset by it but I think it's a good idea.
