Question about bats...

There are bats flying around outside our house each evening. They do not worry me, but my husband thinks that they could be dangerous. Am I correct in saying that it would be extremely rare for them to swoop down and bite us when we are sitting on our deck?

My parents used to have a 50,000 gallon pool in their backyard. As a result, there were hundreds of bats around. Never once did I get bit. I was even in the pool when they'd skim the surface for water. Consider yourself lucky if you have bats. They keep the mosquito and insect population down. I wish there were bats where I live. If I could, I'd put up a bat-house, but my neighbors would go ape-crazy.

Thank you! I know that they are great for the environment, but sometimes they fly very close to the house and to us sitting on the deck. Just wondering if we should be concerned at all.

In many states it is illegal to kill them, since they eat over ten thousand insects a night.

We don't want to kill them- they are good for the environment. Just wondering if we should be worried sitting outside.

You'll be fine. They are just doing what they do.
