What is a sleep paralysis? An easy description so I will be able to understand?

Report as

Basically it's the inability to move for a brief period of time upon waking up. Often compared to being nightmare-like because one feels like they are in a dream, but can't move, or feel like something is holding them down.

I've had it. I woke up. Couldn't move my eyes, limbs, head. Anything. I'm pretty sure I could breath though. Hard to say as it only lasted a second or two at the most. But that is long enough to know something ain't right. I suddenly snapped out of it and was able to move. It felt like a weight was pushed on me and my limbs were held in place. A few people I know have had it too. With varying degrees of experience. Freaky but interesting. As soon as it finished I realised it most likely was the brain not engaging the muscles after 'sleep' mode.....
