Do you think Obama has made good on his campaign promises?

Is so, which ones? If not, which ones?

One thing I'm glad about, but not sure if it was a promise Is that usama bin laden was captured, but I am very disappointed that he wasn't arrested and tried. That being said, I suppose he could have been found not guilty so maybe it was necessary to kill him after all. I just would have liked to see him squirm a little.

I don't know, did he promise to put the country in financial ruin, if so, then yes he has made good on his promises, and as for bin laden, they should have killed him slower, like work him over with a butter knife and a spoon...

I'm not a fan of the man myself, but even I can't blame him for the bad economy. I will say this, he sure didn't help it. I mean really... make more money and spend, spend, spend. When I was a little girl listening to adults complain about the economy I asked my dad why the just didn't make more money, sounded good to me.:) Appearently we have a President who thinks like a 10 year old girl.
I see you would have preferred the "Jack Bauer" approach to dealing with bin laden.

It's easy to make promises, much harder to make them come true. I don't know if it' possible to make some of them come true without having some drastic doing without the better things in life. As a nation we are all too spoiled and think we have to raise everyone to the same level. The Bible says the poor will be with you always. We still need to help those who truly need our help, but the Bible also says those who refuse to work should not be helped. We cannot support the whole world and tax the people who create the jobs so heavily they cannot grow their companies to hire more people.

Congress is in charge of spending (it has "power of the purse"). Obama was a senator and voted for the budgets. Therefore, he is more at fault. Bush's last year in office, he gave congress whatever they wanted. When the Bush administration saw this coming, they tried to stop it and congress held hearings to stop the regulators. Don't believe me? Look on utube for video of the hearings.

The democrats can't cut spending. Their only solution is to raise taxes (separating us from our money) and print more money (lowering the value of the money we have left).
Report as
As far as national security, what has he done differently than Bush? He has maintained Bushes policies, regarding national security.

Bush got us into Afghanistan and Iraq. Obama expanded that to include Pakistan and Libya. He helped destabilize Egypt. Is Syria and Jordan next? When the Middle East is destabilized, terrorists will fill the vacuum. That will lead to war in Israel. Do we get involved then?

Blaming the other guy is appropriate when the other guy plus his Halliburton cronies dug a hole when given a surplus and the hole is so deep that one guy by himself can't possibly dig us out of. It's called "giving credit where credit is due".

No president can "make good" on any promises because a president is not king and cannot rule by fiat like that. All he can do is lead in the direction he promised, and fight for the things he has promised to fight for. It's Congress's duty to make good on things and because of our corrupt 2 party system, the party in opposition to the party of the President's prefers to spite the ruling party rather than conduct good government.

The same has held true when the party opposite was in power. Both parties consider it more important to seize power than to govern.

Nothing but change. This is why his reelection campaign will be mostly a bunch of bashing on his part anyway.

I'm so tired of hearing how he inherited this economy. Bull. Bush had a deficit of 453 billion. Obamas got one at 14.6 TRILLION and rising. The democrats own this puppy. Let's not forget he had the house and senate the first to years and got what he wanted. Look how well that's worked out.

Being president is an extremely difficult job. He is simply not qualified to do it. His people he has surrounded himself with suck and they're giving him bad advice to further their own agendas.

The unemployment rate in the great depression was 24.9 %
we are currently at 9.5%
Keep in mind these rates are not calculated the same now as they were back them. Back then unemployment was calculated by the number of people actually not working.
Currently under this administration it is calculated by the number of applications filled out in a 2 week period. This does not include the people that haven't found a job to apply for in 2 weeks or the people who have just given up looking for work since he keeps extending their unemployment and the fact that their jobs have been destroyed.
Hello if we recalculate some people say we are at over 20%. this not a recession anymore, and it's damn sure not a recovery.

Things he promised and did do.

1-
I believe he did say he would do the whole green thing for the environment. And he has. Now all his new rules and regulations have destroyed jobs.

2- he promised change.

3-he promised to give out stimulus checks and he did. It's a big part of the reason we're in this mess.

That's all I can think of. Please add to the list as the question asks. I'm very curious to see if he's followed through with anything he promised either.

Have a nice day,
WOOF WOOF.

Thank you so much for your answer and I'm disappointed your post got lost in cyber land...so frustrating! I have had that happen to me too, and I have learned to copy my post before I submit it. It usually happens in the comment box so I think there is a time out or something that causes the post to get lost, just a theory.
I remember clearly the way Obama was touted as the Economic guru who was going to save our country from economic despair and get it going strong again. It was implied that there were to be plenty of new jobs awaiting if everyone just throw in there vote for, as you put it, "The Anointed One" There were promises made that could never have been kept, this was done deliberately to build up false hopes just to get votes.
It's scary the blind faith that some people have for Obama, I am not so sure it's even healthy. Our government should always be held up to scrutny, and kept in check. He had so little experience serving as a polatician, many of his voters are starting to wake up and realize he was grossly under qualified for the job of President of the U.S. And your right about being regarded a rascist if you oppose him, but I think they do that as a way to effectively shut down a different point of view.

It is a bit much to expect from polaticians to actually care about American people, we have to learn to fend for ourselves. This is our country, it's in our power to take control and rebuild. Like I said more people need to start businesses and keep jobs here. That would help, we also need to be more demading of our government officials.

Right right right and right again.
I think I said this in my post that vanished so here I go again . Obamas three biggest failures that will cost him 2012
1- lack of experience(economics and foreign policy are 2 biggies by themselves)
2- obamacare
3- he has surrounded himself with staff and advisors ect. That only care about their personal agenda and are as inexperienced an socialist as he is.

That's right he made it sound like by now life was supposed to be all peaches and cream and by next year we're all supposed to be in the streets holding hands an singing " Kum bah ya "!!!! Well , we might all be in the streets by then but it's only gonna be because we won't have homes...!!!!thanx for your input too I was not trying to rush anyone this thing can wait days no problem. I just wrote damn near a novel and worked really hard on getting my numbers all current ( they change daily ) and getting it all laid out in an order and manner that a 10 year old could understand. That's life. Some one else will start praising him and touch a nerve and I'll do it again. If you go back and look at most of my answers the questions always seem to go dead and get really quiet once you lay out the facts.
Anyway you're right on agendas. There will soon be term limits both sides actually agree on that. This is what the TEA party is so great for. Their only agenda is the constitution and keeping it from being basically over ruled by anyone democrats or republicans.... Thanx for your time and good luck.

Something people need to remember though - is that no matter how much he may want to keep those promises, if Congress won't let him, then there isn't much that he can do about it. Until we find political leaders who are willing to work with each other, for the good of the country, instead of constantly backstabbing each other for their own agendas - this country will continue to fall into the crapper.

And no... I didn't vote for him. I think he meant well, but I also saw right away, that there was no way he'd be able to do all the things he was promising to do.

Except the problem wit that is .... Well look at how bad the first 2 years have worked out. He had 100% control over congress and it's ruining this country . Keep in mind democrats had the house AND senate so that excuse doesn't hold water. The reason the republicans are fighting so hard is because if they don't and Obama gets his way we' re gonna speaking Chinese and living in straw huts.
Report as
Even if "Democrats" had control, that doesn't mean anything anymore. That was the point of what I said, there is so much in-fighting between members of Congress (on both sides) that nothing gets accomplished. They are all too worried about their own personal agendas to set them aside to do what's might be right for the country.
Report as
Yes I agree completely and once the republicans get control of both term limits will be set in place for all! But. In this vase you happen to be wrong. Obama got 100% of everything he asked for for his first 2 years. Some of it was quite sneaky and underhanded. Even illegal in some cases the way he got it. But every time anyone opposes him they are called racist. The vice president even compared anyone not buying into his fictional science that they were caught red handed falsifying information on man made global warming to racist in Mississippi back in the days of the klan. I mean that's like saying my gas prices went up because I ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch. It makes zero sense. What you say about agendas is dead on. That's what makes the TEA party so great. Their whole agenda is constitutional rights. They have laid out all their cards on the table and have NOTHING TO HIDE. even with many key African American members they are still being called racist. Obamas grasping. That's all he has left to run a new campaign on. He made one critical error that NO president can NEVER afford. He surrounded h self in the worst possible choice of idiots for advisors that we had to offer and anything left he didn't screw up they screwed up for him. This will cost him 2011.

@Sephira, thanks for answering my question: The thing about Obama is he was glorified, there were impossible promises made only to get people to vote for him. No, there was never a chance he could keep them all, but it was an act of cruelty to have made them in the first place because the people it ends up hurting are the ones who are most vulnerable. If he would have had solid, productive plans he wouldn't have been opposed so it's a little unfair to say say that he can't keep his promises because congress won't let him.
There really is too mush fighting between parties, they need to start focusing on fixing our country instead of playing games in the name of party affiliation.

Hi pacific, im not american but Obama must do something about the war in Iraq. Something needs to be done about this. We Canadians keep hearing it's almost over, it's almost over. This is why alot of us like him, untill he shifted his focus onto the economy and social equality of your country which is also good. One thing for sure is that Obama's plan is much more sensible than McCain's. Bush's economic plan failed, and McCain still wants to continue with it and expects a different result. It can't happen that way.

Thank you for answering my question. You may not be American, but your opinions matter just the same. It IS time for us to get out of Iraq completely, I wish all Americans could come home so they can protect America from here. I was stunned when we invaded Iraq, then the war lasted far longer than I ever thought it would! I have never seen a President be so deaf to the voice of the people as Bush was. About 3,000 people were killed in 9/11, but not thousand upon thousand of soldiers were killed and wounded, look at the 100,000's of civilians killed/wounded. The war did no good, it didn't help anything.

McCain's not a worry, he's a bit too old to run now, but Obama doesn't have a sensible economic plan, he spends too much money. Bush had help from Bill Clinton in the collapse of our economy. He made it too easy for people who couldn't afford to buy homes get high interest loans to buy them. These people were a bad risk, not putting them down, just fact.
