get more aquainted with them by opening the curtains and researching into them. For me it took over 8 years to rid the feeling of being scared of them.....the more you look at them through the window the more at rest you'll become, and you'll start to enjoy them later in life.

I think everyone who answered before me is correct. I will add that my mom was petrified of storms all her life because of circumstances in her youth. She became "paralyzed" when it would storm and she would scare us kids. She tried ever so much not to but her own fear took over. I would take her hand and hold it. I would pat her head and speak softly to her throughout the storms. I did that all my life until I left home for college. I thought she was fine until years later when I was married and she came to stay and a severe storm was approaching. I saw the fear rise up in her eyes and instantly knew. We went to the basement where she could not see what was happening outside. I started talking about everything but the storm. We laughed most of the time. After a while she said, "I don't hear the storm anymore". That was the last time she was ever afraid. Once she realized that she was safe and afraid for no reason she could relax and forget it. She has lived in Fl for the last 30 years and loves the rain and storms only occasionally bother her. I tell you this story so you can use the tips others have given you and so you can learn from my mom sooner than she did that fear is crippling if you allow it to be. Be the boss of your fear whether it is of storms, heights or anything. Do not let your fears boss you. Be safe, be happy. You will be okay!

I am 33 yrs old and am terrified of storms myself. I don't know where you live, but I am in the midwest where there are tornadoes. I have a fear of rain and high winds, too. The one thing I do is put my earphones on and turn up my music really loud until the storm passes. I will occasionally look outside to see if I see any rays of sun which means the storm is almost over. I also watch the Weather Channel to see how big the storm is and have learned what each color means. I also watch to see how fast it is moving. Now, when a storm is coming, I know how long it will last and how bad it will be. Because of this, I'm not so much afraid of most of the storms, although a few still get to me. Another thing you can do is go online and learn what causes thunderstorms and lightning. Learn as much as you can. Eventually, your fear will calm down. You may always have it just not as bad and you will learn to not be so scared of them. Good luck, rayray!! I know how it is.

Remember all of the great things that come from thunderstorms. There is food, water, rainbows (if the sun comes out in time), inspiration for good or scary movies and time when you don't have to be working when it is okay to kick back and read a book. I love thunderstorms so think of me when you are scared and know I am one of the people God makes them for because I enjoy them. I hope you can find a way to accept them and calm your fears. I'll say a prayer for you every time it storms from now until I die-promise!
