Male and female bettas together?

I have both a male betta and a female betta. The female betta is in a small (probably around a 1-2 gallons) tank and I recently upgraded my male betta to a 5 gallon tank. I was wondering if I could put them both together in the 5 gallon tank? Neither are really aggressive. When you get near the females glass she swims over to you and just sits there and the male just swims to the other side.

Try putting the female in a bag of water and float in the males tank to see how he feels bout her

It is not advisable to keep male and female Betta fish together. This is because the males have an aggressive mating behavior, which can induce a bad fight that can led to death. Visit http://www.ehow.com/how_2002252_breed-betta-fish.html, for more details.
